Amauri falls to 'flu'

Amauri falls to 'flu'
Tuesday 30 September, 2008

Juventus look likely to be without striking ace Amauri against BATE Borisov this evening as he is suffering from a fever.

The ex-Palermo man has been one of the stars of the Old Lady's season and he has three goals to his name.

But despite travelling to Belarus, Amauri is set to sit out tonight's second Champions League encounter.

The Brazilian marksman became ill after last Saturday's clash against Sampdoria and has been unable to shake off his flu-like symptoms.

It looks like Vincenzo Iaquinta will finally have a chance to impress with David Trezeguet out of action until the New Year.

The ex-Udinese man is likely to start alongside Alessandro Del Piero, who scored the only goal against Zenit St Petersburg.

BATE Borisov (probable): Veremko; Khaletski, Sosnovsky, Rzhevsky, Yurevich; Krivets, Likhtarovic, Zaitsev, Stasevich; Rodionov, Bliznyuk

Juventus (probable): Manninger; Grygera, Legrottaglie, Chiellini, Molinaro; Camoranesi, Sissoko, Marchisio, Nedved; Iaquinta, Del Piero

"Lima puluh gol internasional bersama Juve?

Del Piero: «More pragmatic but with the same balance»

Del Piero: «More pragmatic but with the same balance»

Del Piero is getting into European mode again and is ready to leave his mark one more time. While he waits to score his first in the League, the Captain has scored in both European stages so far, and they were brilliant goals: first the one against Artmedia in the qualifiers, then the decider against Zenit.

Eastern Europe brings him luck and against Bate Del Piero is going to look for his third, a goal that on one hand would bring him closer to the record of 50 goals scored in Europe, but on the other also dispel some of the unfair criticism he received after the 0-0 in Genoa. «I'm not unduly bothered– he remarked during the press conference on the eve of the match -, I would be more worried if we hadn't created any chances. Our problems Saturday were made more obvious by our opponents playing a great match, but in the other games we always had several chances. We'll try to be more pragmatic already starting tomorrow, while still keeping the right balance so as not to concede any goals. Plus let's hope that we're a little luckier and that we don't always hit the woodwork or force great saves out of the keepers».

Del Piero is all set to play a great match, then, regardless of whom his forward partner is going to be; whether it's Giovinco, Iaquinta or Amauri, as in the last two games. The understanding with the Brazilian - who missed the last training session because of a cold - is growing; so much so that he is starting to be compared to David Trezeguet, the great absentee: «I've been playing with David for a long time – the Captain remarked -. Amauri is a great player and he fit in from the start, so we've worked well together and we've often passed the ball to each other. We've started off well for now».

After defeating Zenit, he will now try to do the same with Bate Borisov, a team that may not be well-known, but not to be taken lightly for sure: «We know the players from this team, but as always we mustn't fear individual players, but the team as a whole. We're facing young opponents who have achieved a lot getting into the Champions League and will want to do well. We'll have to watch out for their spirit».

Ranieri: «The best Juve against Bate»

Ranieri: «The best Juve against Bate»

Claudio Ranieri is ready for another “first” in his career as Juve’s Manager: a Champions League away game. A month almost to the day after the draw in Bratislava in the qualifier and two weeks after the win over Zenit, the Bianconeri are in Minsk to face Bate Borisov, the unknown quantity in Group H, the team that could cause a few upsets.
That's why the Belarus team, who are taking part in the top European tournament for the first time, mustn’t be underestimated. Manager Ranieri knows how dangerous they can be and he was clear about this during today's press conference with Alessandro Del Piero: «It's a crucial game; we won the first match so we want to do well in this one too. We have the utmost respect for Bate, they’re a young team, playing their first Champions League home game, and therefore they'll want to do well on their debut in front of their fans».

The Manager then explained what the dangers could be, demonstrating how well he's studied his upcoming opponents: «They were without their two regular strikers in Madrid, but they should be playing this time. Plus they did very well in the qualifiers. They're dangerous when they can play on the counter-attack and they're good on stopped play situations, as they have tall defenders who come up, like they did against Levski Sofia. These are opponents to be respected, that's why I'll be playing the best-possible Juventus line-up. When you play different tournaments, the best-possible side always plays, because the most important match is always the next one».

The Champions League allows everybody to forget the League for a few days. But the two draws in a row are on everybody's lips even thousands of miles from home, particularly the assumption that Juventus are having problems up front. Ranieri sees it this way: «First of all, let's try and separate the League and the Champions League. It's true, the stats say we're not scoring a lot, but the team created many chances, especially against Catania. We're not doing very well in front of goal, but the important thing is that we're not letting many in. Sooner or later the goals will come; I've never worried about this».

Seba close to Juve extension

Seba close to Juve extension
Tuesday 30 September, 2008

Juventus starlet Sebastian Giovinco is poised to put pen to paper on a contract extension.

The Azzurrini ace is seen as one of Europe's most exciting rising talents and he could be a crucial foundation for Juve's future.

However, Giovinco has been targeted by a number of other sides, including Arsenal and he has been reticent to extend his commitment to the Old Lady.

This season could be Seba's breakthrough campaign and his agent has revealed that he is keen to receive guarantees that he will play first-team football - assurances that the Bianconeri aren't willing to offer.

But the latest reports suggest that Giovinco is ready to extend his contract until 2013 with a starting salary of around £650,000 plus bonuses.

“We will have to see what happens,” agent Alessandro D'Amico stated.

“There has been no direct contact with any other club in Italy or overseas and there's no problem with Claudio Ranieri - Giovinco will get his chance and he has shown that he can stay at Juve.”

Gigli: Attack Was Poor Against Samp

Gigli: Attack Was Poor Against Samp

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli admits that the team’s attack was poor against Sampdoria at the weekend.

The Bianconeri put in possibly their worst performance of the season so far, as they drew 0-0 in Genoa against a struggling Sampdoria side.

Aside from Alessandro Del Piero’s shot that hit the post, Juve created virtually nothing all game, and the attack was particularly unimpressive.

There have now been some question marks over Juve’s frontline, who have scored just four times in five Serie A games.

"I admit that I saw a sterile attack against Sampdoria, but before this game this was not the case,” said Gigli, who then bemoaned the bad luck his side have had in front of goal so far this campaign.

"If we count the number of times we have hit the post…,” he added.

“This is not a justification because I know that the ball must go into the goal, but it does mean we have gone close.”

This is unlikely to be close enough for many Juventus fans, as pressure is already starting to build on coach Claudio Ranieri due to his poor management in the last few games.

Secco Focuses On Positives

Secco Focuses On Positives

Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco responded to claims that the team are struggling for goals, saying the focus should be on the fact that they are still unbeaten and that they have the best defence in the league.

It's been the main topic of discussion over the last few days at Juventus, particularly following the drab goalless draw against Sampdoria: the team's apparent problems to score goals.

President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli and coach Claudio Ranieri already came out in defence of the team, and now it's sporting director Alessio Secco who talked about this issue.

"Yes, we only scored 4 goals, but we also hit the woodwork 4-5 times. If that hadn't happened, we'd be in a better position. Still, we conceded only two goals, which makes us the best defence, and we are the only team that hasn't lost yet along with Napoli. The league has just started, and there will be time to improve," he said.

Asked whether tomorrow captain Alessandro Del Piero and Vincenzo Iaquinta would play from the start, he said: "You should ask that to Ranieri. Amauri still has a sore throat, but I don't think it's anything serious, tomorrow he should be available. Then it will be the coach who decides who plays and who doesn't."

Finally, on the long-term absence of star striker David Trezeguet, Secco said: "It's certainly an important absence but it can't become an excuse. We have other very strong strikers so we continue with those, without complaining too much because we can do very well."

Juventus are preparing for their second match in the Champions League away to BATE Borisov on Tuesday night.

Giovinco And Legrottaglie Delighted With New Deals

Giovinco And Legrottaglie Delighted With New Deals

Juventus duo Sebastian Giovinco and Nicola Legrottaglie have hinted that their new contract extensions are on the way and they are both happy with the result...

Both players are in the process of renewing their current deals at the club following long negotiations between all the parties involved.

There were fears that Juve would risk losing Giovinco as the club were not willing to meet his demands but it all seems resolved and the playmaker is set to pen a new deal.

"I am really happy, the problems regarding the renewal have all been resolved," said Giovinco.

Legro also had a few words and he is looking to end his career with the Old Lady.

"I still haven't signed but we are currently talking with the club and I will be delighted when we finally reach an agreement as I want to end my career here," added the defender.

The Bianconeri are currently in Minsk as they prepare to take on Champions League newcomers Bate Borisov in match day two of group H.

Legrottaglie and Giovinco are both likely to start and they will be hoping to earn their new and improved contracts.

Chiellini sees European tonic
Monday 29 September, 2008

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini believes the Champions League will give the Old Lady the jolt they need to get back on track.

The Bianconeri made a fast start to the season, but back-to-back draws with Catania and Sampdoria have frustrated the fans.

Juve's next engagement is a trip to Belarus to face BATE Borisov tomorrow and Chiellini thinks it's the right tonic for Claudio Ranieri's men.

“We are all fired up for the game and I think a European test will give us the shock we need,” Chiellini told Tuttosport.

“I think we will pick up the points we dropped in Serie A when it comes to the important matches.

“Are we lacking goals? Yes but it's not the strikers' fault. We all have to help and chip in so that we are deadlier from all areas of the pitch.

“We have seen where we are going wrong and we will put it right - everyone is relaxed.”

Chiellini concluded by discussing Azzurrini starlet Sebastian Giovinco and young newcomer Iago, who signed from Barcelona at the end of the summer.

“Giovinco has great competition for a place, but he will follow the right road. As for Iago, watch him because he has a great left foot,” he said.

Juve already at work, team flies to Minsk on Monday

Juventus continue their series of close-up games. Just a few hours after the game at the Ferraris against Sampdoria and after returning from Genoa, the team immediately resumed training in Vinovo with a morning session today.

As usual, those who played had a lighter session, while the others trained normally, including Nicola Legrottaglie, who missed the Samp game but today took part in the final training match too.

Buffon's fitness is improving, and this morning he worked as normal with Goalkeeping Coach Giorgio Pellizzaro. But the keeper won't be taking part in the trip as a precaution. He'll be staying in Turin with Poulsen, whom Claudio Ranieri has decided to rest for one game. Injured players Zanetti and Trezeguet will also stay home. However, Zebina will be travelling with the team, even if he won't be available for the match itself. Junior keeper Nocchi has also been called up.

In total a 21-man squad will depart tomorrow morning – Monday September 29th – for Belarus and, after a three-hour flight, will reach Minsk, the city Bate Borisov have selected to play their home Champions League games. Here is the list of players in full.

Camoranesi: «There's no shame in drawing here»

Camoranesi: «There's no shame in drawing here»

«These teams make you want to stop playing». This remark alone is enough to summarize Mauro German Camoranesi's thoughts on today's match. The years go by, but the Italian-Argentinean's ideas remain the same: football is supposed to be fun and spectacular and matches such as this one at the Ferraris are really not the kind he likes.

«I'm sorry, it was a boring match – Camoranesi remarked at the end of the game -, they never tried creating any danger for us; they only focused on defending and trying to pass long balls to Cassano. We had trouble in midfield as Sampdoria had more players there. We could've done more, but I think we could've played for three days straight and it would have still ended 0-0, in any case there's no shame in drawing here. These teams make you want to stop playing though. My performance? I'm fine now, my ankle bothered me a little bit, but there's no problem. In the first half I tried to help Grygera out when Cassano took him on. In the second half I made too many mistakes and I'm sorry about this».

Chiellini: «Shame we didn't win, we'll improve»

Chiellini: «Shame we didn't win, we'll improve»

The season's first 0-0 draw came in Genoa. The novelty comes from Juventus not scoring, because a clean sheet is a habitual thing for the defence by now.

Indeed this one at the Ferraris was the third clean sheet out of five League matches. All thanks to the defence, where different men may rotate, but the results don't change.

Among them, one of the leaders is proving to be - game after game - Giorgio Chiellini. Not only when he plays, but when he gives interviews too. Just read his remarks: «It was a difficult game, regrettably we were unable to score and win. This isn't the strikers' fault, we should have set up the game play better from behind and besides they help out a lot when we’re defending. As we haven't won for two games in a row, this means we've been missing something, but the road we're on is the right one, we'll surely improve. This is only the fifth game, the League season is long».

Cristian Ledesma

Juve linked to Ledesma
Friday 26 September, 2008

Juventus are being linked with a swoop for Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma if he becomes a free agent next summer.

The Bianconeri are still lacking options in midfield and are being widely linked to German international Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Ledesma has won many admirers with his work at Lazio over the last few seasons but he is at odds with the club after a public contract wrangle.

According to Tuttosport, Ledesma will use FIFA's Article 17 to liberate himself from his contract, which expires in 2011, next summer.

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has shown few signs of being willing to compromise and it seems the Old Lady will have the chance to pick up a bargain.

The Argentine ace would jump at the chance to join the Turin giants, but his future may be linked to that of Tiago Mendes, who refused several transfer opportunities presented to him this summer.

Cobolli slams door on Cassano

Cobolli slams door on Cassano
Friday 26 September, 2008

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli insists there’ll be no bid for Antonio Cassano. “We’ll focus on our talented youth products.”

There have been reports since the summer that the Bianconeri were interested in the rediscovered Sampdoria talent.

“We have some talented players from our youth team who can become champions,” said Cobolli Gigli.

“Our path must be to focus on them. I am not closing the door on Cassano, who has undoubted talent, but I say our club should follow the youth policy.”

One of the examples of Juve’s academy in action is Sebastian Giovinco, who impressed during the 1-1 draw with Catania.

“We are a strong side with class and courage. Claudio Ranieri knows how to approach games the right way and launch youngsters on to the main stage. That’s what makes him great,” continued the President.

Ranieri has a fractious rapport with Inter Coach Jose Mourinho and the two have crossed swords in the media on numerous occasions.

“There is competition on the field, so there’s no need to agree there. Off the pitch is another matter, even if it is logical there will be some sniping.

“However, one must always set an example, because we all know our words can have important repercussions.”

Ranieri: «I'm expecting my players to play well again in Genoa»

Ranieri: «I'm expecting my players to play well again in Genoa»

«Against Samp, I'm expecting my players to confirm the good things they've done so far: we're on form and we must continue like this. It'll be an open game against Samp, just like it was last year».
This is how Ranieri is expecting the game against the Blucerchiati, scheduled for Saturday at the Marassi, to be. The Manager should have Camoranesi available again in Genoa, but not yet Gigi Buffon: «Camoranesi still feels a little pain, but he's available. Gigi should be training today again too. He feels ok now, but it's one thing to feel good in civilian clothes, quite another in a sport outfit. I hope I can have him back in time for Tuesday».

Camoranesi's return is great news: «Camo is one of the old guard, one of our best players, and he's crucial in our game because he comes out with unexpected passes in front of goal, even though there were many of those against Catania too. We weren't able to convert them, but the important thing is to create these chances».

Giovinco in particular stood out against Catania, playing in Nedved's role. But a player with his talent could play in other parts of the pitch too: «For the time being, he plays on the left, because it’s obvious he feels at ease there, but anything is possible. This is a lad who can still surprise us very much, so let's not pin him down as a left-wing player. Are him and Del Piero incompatible? No way, they did some great things together! In fact Bizzarri's final save came from one of their combinations!».

His skills could be needed again against Samp but Ranieri, as always, doesn't disclose anything about his chosen line-up beforehand. In any case, Juventus will be looking to win, but this mustn't become an obsession for them: «It's not that just because we drew with Catania we now have to win at all costs. We have to try, yes. Samp are having problems? We'll see after we've played against them if they're really having problems or they simply haven't gotten the results so far. It's like with AC Milan: everybody was saying they were having problems, when in fact they were creating six or seven clear goal-scoring chances every match. As soon as they started scoring, the situation changed».

Bastian's on the road to Juve

Bastian's on the road to Juve
Friday 26 September, 2008

German international Bastian Schweinsteiger looks increasingly likely to join Juventus at the end of the season.

The gifted midfielder's contract with Bayern Munich expires next summer and he has made it clear that he would be delighted to join the Old Lady.

Juve have never fully resolved their midfield problems after last year's signings Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron flopped in Turin.

The Bianconeri are expected to offer Schweinsteiger a lucrative contract when they are allowed to begin talks with him in the winter.

And Bastian has hinted that he is preparing for life in Serie A with recent comments in the German Press.

“I'm learning Italian because I really like the language,” he revealed.

“I'm happy at Bayern but you never know what will happen in football. I am just concentrating on training and the rest will sort itself out.”

Schweinsteiger has made over 150 appearances for Bayern since coming through the youth system in Bavaria.

Claudio Ranieri

Not A Must Win Game - Ranieri

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri doesn't think tomorrow's match against Sampdoria is a must win for his side despite the draw against Catania in midweek.

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri talked about tomorrow's game against Sampdoria, which he expects to be a tough one, but urges his team to build on the positives from the midweek draw against Catania. In that game, Juve wasted a series of chances, but the Rossazzurri held out for a 1-1 draw.

"We drew, but that doesn't mean that this game is a must-win," he said. "We must stay calm and regain our energy and motivation, without playing with apprehension.

"Perhaps we lost two points against Catania, but we missed a lot of chances, and the goals will surely come in the future. I don't want to look for excuses, but the pitch was terrible, it was more for rugby players."

On this weekend's Milan derby, he said: "Of course I will be watching, but I won't be supporting either side. I will just be an interested spectator."

Ranieri thinks Samp are a team not to be underestimated despite the fact that they have yet to win a league match this season.

"There are no easy games and all teams are on the same level," he insisted. "Lecce did well against Inter, Genoa are in great form and also Sampdoria are always a difficult team to face."

Legrottaglie Ruled Out

Legrottaglie Ruled Out For Samp Match

Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie has been ruled out for tomorrow's match against Sampdoria after suffering a minor injury during training.

Juventus and Italian international defender Nicola Legrottaglie will miss tomorrow's match against Sampdoria in Serie A after getting injured during training today.

The 32-year-old suffered a muscular problem during today's session, but according to Juve's medical staff it is not a serious problem. However, he will stay in Turin in order to recover for the Champions League match on Tuesday against BATE Borisov.

Legrottaglie is the latest Juve player to be ruled out due to injury after goalkeeper Gigi Buffon, David Trezeguet, Cristiano Zanetti, and Jonathan Zebina.

Now it's likely that new purchase Olof Mellberg will step in to replace Legro in central defence, where he will partner Giorgio Chiellini.

There is also some good news for coach Claudio Ranieri as Mauro Camoranesi has recovered from his injury and will be available again.

Reports: Schweinsteiger To Join Juve Next Summer

Reports: Schweinsteiger To Join Juve Next Summer

According to reports in Italy, Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will join Juventus on a free transfer next summer.

The 24-year-old has been in the Bayern first-team squad since 2002; however, his contract runs out at the end of this season and he will be available on a Bosman transfer if he does not sign an extension with the Bavarian giants.

Juventus have long been linked with the German international, who was one of his country’s star performers at this summer's European Championships.

Bianconeri sporting director Alessio Secco recently revealed that the club are looking for a left midfield replacement for the 36-year-old Pavel Nedved, who is almost certain to retire at the end of the season.

According to reports in Italy, it is now looking highly likely that Schweinsteiger will indeed be Nedved’s replacement in Turin.

The German has further fueled talk of a move by admitting that he is learning the Italian language.

“I'm learning Italian because I really like the language,” he stated.

“I'm happy at Bayern but you never know what will happen in football. I am just concentrating on training and the rest will sort itself out.”

Despite only being 24, Schweinsteiger has considerable experience, and has already been capped 59 times by Germany, scoring 17 goals.

Giovinco Close To Juventus Renewal - Report

After many weeks of negotiations, it seems that finally the issue of Sebastian Giovinco’s contract renewal with Juventus is slowly coming to a positive end for both sides.

The Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Giovinco will pen a new deal with the Old Lady despite the rumours of the past weeks that he was being followed closely by Arsenal.

The player’s initial wage demands were turned down by the Bianconeri’s management, but new talks are expected in the middle of next week following the squad’s return from their Champions League commitment against Bate Borisov.

Apparently the gap between the two parties has been decreased as the player will probably accept a new contract which expires in 2013 worth €700,000 per season.

This was confirmed by the club’s director of sports Alessio Secco to Sky.

“There are never easy renewals, but the distances are not so ample,” he commented.

“The player is the club’s asset, but he must complete a process of maturation, also from the psychological part, and what interests us is that he is aware that he did not arrive yet.”

Trezeguet Thanks Fans For Support

Trezeguet Thanks Fans For Support

Juventus striker David Trezeguet has thanked fans for all the support they have shown him during his rough time with injury but he admits he is feeling fine after surgery.

The French hit-man had surgery on both knees as a result of tendon and ligament problems but the operation was deemed a success by the medical staff.

He is now on the long road to recovery, full of confidence and doesn't seem phased by his absence from the pitch.

"I would like to thank everyone and the fans for all the affection and support they have showed me," Trezeguet told Tuttosport.

"I am feeling good and tranquil, the worst is behind us.

"Four months out isn't that long if we really think about it."

Trezegol had his meniscus and ligaments fixed up after suffering from long term pain in his knees. He has been ruled out until January at the earliest.

After the games against Udinese, Cagliari and Catania, the one against Sampdoria will not be influenced by any suspension either. Indeed none of the two teams' players appear in the list of suspended players released after the midweek games.

In the match against Catania, once again Juventus received no yellow cards and they are still one of the best-behaved teams so far in the League.

Juve already training for Sampdoria game

There's really no let-up for the Bianconeri. Barely hours after the game against Catania, the team met up in Vinovo again for a morning training session. As scheduled, those who played last night had a lighter session, while the others had a normal workload.

The calendar gives no time for a break and, seeing as the Champions League returns next week (on Tuesday September 30th there's the away game at Bate Borisov) the Bianconeri have been forced to schedule their next League fixture on the Saturday. The match begins at 6 pm and Ranieri's men will face Sampdoria at the Ferraris in Genoa.

Considering how imminent the game is, tomorrow is already the eve of the match. The team will be training in the afternoon, after which they'll be travelling to Genoa. At 2.30 pm, before they start training, Claudio Ranieri will hold his usual press conference, which will be shown live on Juventus Channel.

Mauro German Camoranesi should be available again for the match against Samp, as he trained as normal with his team mates this morning. Buffon though will be missing again (alongside Trezeguet, Zebina and Zanetti). This morning, the keeper underwent an ultrasound scan that confirmed his contracture is healing. Therefore he'll be starting a special personal training regime from tomorrow.

Amauri: We Should Have Killed The Game

Amauri: We Should Have Killed The Game

Amauri is the latest Juventus player to lament the number of missed chances against Catania last night, while he has words of praise for Sebastian Giovinco.

The Brazilian has been in outstanding form of late, and scored for the third Serie A game in succession from Giovinco’s cross to put Juve 1-0 up against Catania in Turin.

However, despite creating a whole host of chances, the Bianconeri could not kill off the game, and the Sicilians found an equaliser midway through the second half to grab a somewhat undeserved point.

“Unfortunately my goal wasn't enough to win this time,” said Amauri.

“We should have done better getting another goal with all the chances we had. Shame about that funny bounce that cost us a goal.

“We're only at the beginning and we can only get better. Giovinco gave me a beautiful pass; he is proof of how strong the squad is, a squad where everyone is well-prepared when they're called into action.”

Juventus had been joint-top of the table prior to last night, but they have now allowed Inter to open up a two point gap over them, while they have also been leapfrogged by Lazio and Atalanta. This weekend Juve take on Sampdoria in Genoa.

Amauri: «We're only at the beginning, we can only get better»

For a long stretch of the match, it looked like Amauri's third consecutive goal could bring the three points again. That would have made it nine points earned by the Brazilian in ten days. But alas Catania succeeded where Udinese and Cagliari had failed, and ruined the Bianconeri's celebrations.

The final draw doesn't make the Brazilian too sad though as he feels that, apart from the 1-1 result, the team performed well: «Unfortunately my goal wasn't enough to win this time. We should have done better getting another goal with all the chances we had. Shame about that funny bounce that cost us a goal. We're only at the beginning and we can only get better. Giovinco gave me a beautiful pass; he is proof of how strong the squad is, a squad where everyone is well-prepared when they're called into action».

Giovinco: We Had At Least 10 Chances

Giovinco: We Had At Least 10 Chances

Sebastian Giovinco was happy with the way Juventus played last night during their draw with Catania but rues the host of chances they squandered.

Giovinco finally made his Serie A bow for Juve against the Sicilians, and it proved to be worth the wait as the 21-year-old produced a scintillating individual display, and was undoubtedly his side’s man of the match.

The fantasista set-up Amauri’s goal, and created a whole host of other chances, but frustratingly had to watch on as Catania somehow sneaked out an undeserved 1-1 draw.

“Fortunately I'd already played here when Juve were in Serie B, so I wasn't that nervous,” said Giovinco.

“We're sorry for how the game went. We're happy with our performance but not the result.

“The turf didn't help us, but we’re not looking for alibis, we created at least 10 goal-scoring chances, we were only unable to convert them.

“The chance I had? I didn't hit the ball right; I should've lifted it or put it in the middle.”

Giovinco will now be hoping that he keeps his place in the team this weekend when Juve travel to the Stadio Ferraris to take on Sampdoria.

Giovinco: «We’re happy about our performance, not so the result»

If it wasn't for Plasmati getting the equalizer for Catania, it would've been a memorable night for Sebastian Giovinco.

Playing his first League game of the season and at home, the young talent immediately showed he deserves all the attention he’s getting and the cheers from the fans. He displayed his class, like when he set up Amauri's goal, but also his great determination and the right amount of toughness, showing everybody that the boy has what it takes physically as well.

Here are his remarks after the game: «Fortunately I'd already played here when Juve were in Serie B, so I wasn't that nervous. We're sorry for how the game went. We're happy with our performance but not the result. The turf didn't help us, but we’re not looking for alibis, we created at least 10 goal-scoring chances, we were only unable to convert them. * sebuah pertunjukan yg membuat anak2 pas nonbar berteriak teriak krn kesal, jengkel, gemas, marah dll dll....
apa yg terlihat terutama sesaat setelah Juventus kebobolan bener2 bikin geleng2 kepala, di bombardir spt itu justru Catania memunculkan satu nama sbg Super Hero mrk, namanya BIZZARRI...ck ck ck, aksi2nya yg memang trengginas juga dinaungi oleh faktor luck yg sangat tinggi...sampe lupa gw brp peluang yg dia selamatkan atau di mentahkan oleh tiang gawang! spt saat sundulan Alex yg mengantam tiang atas, bola liar di rebound Amauri juga membentur tiang atas...wuihhh, apes

ini opini gw :

penampilan yg lumayan baik dr anak2 CR, kecuali pd sosok Marco dan Marchisio...ini yg mnrt gw tidak maksimal...apalg Marco yg nyaris sepanjang pertandingan tidak memberikan kontribusi yg baik utk kinerja tim, rata2 serangan Juve dibangun di sisi LM yg ditempati Seba..."peran" Marco pula yg menyebabkan awal terjadinya gol dr Catania...dimana dia kehilangan bola dan Catania mampu melancarkan serangan...sebuah umpan tarik dr sisi RB Juve menjadi petaka...krn kesalahan Chiello dlm membaca pergerakan arah bolanya...antisipasinya yg salah (ini sangat fatal dan jujur saja gak nyangka bisa terjadi pd Chiello) membuat si Plasmati dgn enak meneruskan bola ke gawang Juve...

itu aja poin yg bisa gw jabarkan (mnrt kacamata gw), selain tentunya penampilan Seba yg memang atraktif dan membuat kita terhibur...satu peluang one on one dia dptkan tp lagi2 si Bazzarri mampu mementahkannya dgn kaki...juga Amauri yg kembali menjadi kartu AS Juventus...

Ranieri: Giovinco's Time Will Come

Ranieri: Giovinco's Time Will Come

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri has responded to criticism of the way he has handled Sebastian Giovinco, insisting the youngster must be bled into the first team...

Giovinco has been at the centre of considerable speculation in recent weeks, with reports emerging that he is dissatisfied with his current situation in Turin.

The 21-year-old attacker has made just a handful of Serie A appearances for the Bianconeri since being promoted to the senior squad. He spent last season on loan at Empoli and impressed immensely despite their relegation, yet he remains on the fringes at Juve.

Negotiations over a new contract have come to a standstill, and it is being whispered that the Old Lady could effectively banish the Azzurrini star until he decides to commit his future to the club.

Furthermore, Giovinco has attracted a host of suitors - the most ardent being Arsene Wenger, who is eager to add the pint-sized playmaker to his young Arsenal squad.

Juve fans are growing restless with Ranieri's apparent refusal to play one of Italy's most talented youngsters while persisting with less popular players like Christian Poulsen.

But the former Chelsea manager has stood firm, insisting that Giovinco will get his chance eventually and must be patient.

“His time will come slowly but surely - we shouldn't wait for him like a Messiah,” Ranieri said. “We have to see him as a lad who needs to be slowly integrated and we have to take a responsible approach.

“I have never said that he poses a tactical problem. He is just developing as a player - he always played in the centre and then he was on the left at Empoli.

“I brought him back to be a back-up to Pavel Nedved but that doesn't mean that he can't be used in attack.

“I have a lot of faith in him. He works hard and he has great quality but let's give him some time.”

Sissoko: I’m Exhausted

Sissoko: I’m Exhausted

Juventus midfielder Momo Sissoko has apologized for his recent under-par performances, and says he is tired due to Ramadan.

Ramadan is an Islamic religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the calendar, and forbids Muslims from eating or drinking during daylight hours.

Sissoko, as a practicing Muslim, will follow these rules during September, and he admits that he has been feeling very tired recently.

“It's a shame because I know that I didn't give my usual contribution against Cagliari as I was so very tired,” Sissoko told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Everyone is different. Last year I had just recovered from meningitis and an ankle injury so I couldn't observe Ramadan.

“But Ramadan is a duty and certainly not a form of torture, Italy is a multi-cultural society and it's nice that everyone is welcome.”

Sissoko also struggled during the 1-0 win over Zenit St Petersburg last Wednesday and, because of his physical problems, he is expected to start tonight’s home clash against Catania on the bench.

Christian Poulsen will return after sitting out the win over Cagliari, while Claudio Marchisio should partner him in the centre of midfield.

Juve chief: 'We hate Inter!'

Juve chief: 'We hate Inter!'
Tuesday 23 September, 2008

Juventus patron Lapo Elkann admits he finds joint leaders Inter “the least likeable rivals” in football.

The two clubs never really got along, but matters have deteriorated in the wake of Calciopoli. Now after the return to Serie A, they are fighting for the Scudetto once more.

“At this moment Inter are Juve's biggest rivals and, in recent years, have become our least likeable rivals too,” said the heir to the Agnelli empire.

“In any case, Inter are also a strong rival on the market place, seeing as they have four squads in one.”

Elkann has never been reticent in expressing his dislike of the Nerazzurri and is bound to cause further controversy with these statements.

Juve are on a roll after three wins on the trot between Serie A and the Champions League against Udinese, Zenit and Cagliari.

“I have the utmost respect, but the season is a long one and at the end of the day you're never sure who is going to win. The same goes for Europe.”

Neven Subotic and Frederic Nimani

Juventus Plan Double Swoop

Juventus are ready to make moves for Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic and Monaco striker Frederic Nimani according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Bianconeri are keen on strengthening their defence and attacking department following the injury to David Trezeguet and Subotic is their main target.

The big Bosnian-born defender is brilliant in the air and he would be a welcome addition to the side. Tuttomercatoweb claims the player may arrive in January if Juve make progress in the Champions League.

The Old Lady is also looking to add some more fire power up front with Monaco hit-man Nimani. The 19-year-old is being touted as cover for Trezeguet. Juve sporting director Alessio Secco did reveal that he is looking to add some support to the team.

"We will sign two very good players. We are currently looking at some players for all our departments and we will see what happens," said Secco.

Reports suggest Juve have sent their scouts to the principality in order to keep an eye on the young hit-man.

Trezeguet underwent knee surgery on Tuesday morning and he will be out until the new year. Therefore the club needs another striker given their ambitions for the Scudetto and Champions League this term.

Juve Still After Schweinsteiger

Juve Still After Schweinsteiger

Juventus inquired about Schweinsteiger this summer, but nothing concrete came out of the Bianconeri's supposed interest in the player. It was thought Juve had moved on to other targets, but according to Il Giornale, they are still interested in bringing the German international to Turin.

The 24-year-old has been in the Bayern first-team squad since 2002; however, his contract runs out at the end of this season and he could be available for free if he does not sign an extension with they German giants.

Juventus seem to be the club in pole position, as they look to find a replacement for the ageing Pavel Nedved, who turned 36 this August.

However, Schweinsteiger is well known after his international exploits in Euro 2004, World Cup 2006 and Euro 2008, where he performed admirably for his country, scoring some key goals. He is likely to attract plenty of interest from other clubs as well, including both Inter and AC Milan in Serie A.

Schweinsteiger scored the first goal of the Bundesliga in the new 2008/09 season and has 59 caps and 17 goals for his country. He is a candidate to take over the German captaincy once Michael Ballack is no longer part of the national team set-up.

David Trezeguet

Trez has double operation
Tuesday 23 September, 2008

Juventus hitman David Trezeguet has undergone successful surgery on both knees this morning.

The French ace suffered a tendon tear during the Old Lady's Champions League clash with Zenit St Petersburg last week.

And while doctors Giuliano Cerulli and Flavio Quaglia were operating on the right knee, they also took the chance to address a meniscus problem in his left.

The procedure took an hour and a quarter in total and Trezeguet will now require a lengthy period of rehabilitation.

Early indications are that Trez will be back at Claudio Ranieri's disposal by the end of January 2009.

In the meantime, the injury may give Vincenzo Iaquinta or Sebastian Giovinco the chance to shine on the big stage.

Jorge Andrade

Andrade nears Juve exit
Tuesday 23 September, 2008

Juventus are close to agreeing the rescission of stricken defender Jorge Andrade's contract.

The Portuguese international signed for the Old Lady last summer from Deportivo La Coruna for around £8m but his time in Turin has been ravaged by injury.

After just four Serie A appearances, Andrade fractured a kneecap while playing against Roma last September and has been out of action since.

Just as it seemed that Andrade was ready to return to action this July, he suffered a repeat of the same injury in training and is out again for the foreseeable future.

Andrade's contract contains a clause that allows the unilateral conclusion of his contract in the event he is ruled out of action for more than six months.

Bianconeri sporting director Alessio Secco has been negotiating an agreement to annul Andrade's deal, which was set to expire in 2010 and the situation is likely to be resolved shortly.

No suspended players for Wednesday's match

The Football League's decisions still have no bearings on the Bianconeri's games. Indeed no sanctions were taken against either team for Wednesday's midweek game against Catania. Claudio Marchisio was the only Juve player booked at Cagliari, but it was his first yellow card of the season.

Buffon To Miss Next Two Games

Buffon To Miss Next Two Games

Juventus have confirmed that Gianluigi Buffon will be out for 10 days after picking up a muscular injury against Cagliari, thus he will miss at least two games.

The Bianconeri shot-stopper had to come off duing the 1-0 win over the Isolani and he underwent further examinations at Vinovo today.

The club's medical staff have now confirmed that he is suffering from a strain to his adductor muscle in his right leg and he will miss the next two games against Catania as well as the trip to Sampdoria.

Buffon is likely to have another assessment on Wednesday as the club plan his recovery. It's not what the Old Lady needed at this busy time of the season.

David Trezeguet is also out with a long term injury while Mauro Camoranesi and Alessandro Del Piero look doubtful for Wednesday night's game.

Alex Manninger is likely to take Buffon's place for the up coming fixtures. The World Cup winner has been outstanding this season, keeping three consecutive clean sheets.

Juve fans will be hoping he returns as soon as possible in order to safeguard their Scudetto and Champions League challenge.

Trezeguet ready for surgery

Trezeguet ready for surgery

Juventus trained in the afternoon today, to start preparing Wednesday's game against Catania. The squad was divided in two groups: those who played against Cagliari had a light session, to which Zanetti and Zebina took part, as they're on their way to recovering from their respective injuries.

Meanwhile Juventus' medical staff announced that David Trezeguet will be operated on at the Fornaca Clinic tomorrow morning; Prof. Giuliano Cerulli and Prof. Flavio Quaglia will be carrying out the surgery.
First of all it will be necessary to carry out an arthroscopy, to examine the hamstring and evaluate the damage suffered against Zenit, and then the damage itself will be repaired. It must be stressed that Trezeguet's injury is brand new; it occurred during the Champions League game, and has nothing to do with his past hamstring problems. David will rest for fifteen days after the operation, and will start his special rehabilitation treatments in the following fifteen-twenty days.
Recovery times may vary from a minimum of three and a half months up to four-five months at most.

Juve Welcome Back Del Piero

Juve Welcome Back Del Piero

Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero has recovered from his minor injury for Wednesday's clash with Catania...

Alessandro Del Piero scored a spectacular freekick against Zenit St. Petersburg in the Champions League last week, but was forced to miss Juventus' 1-0 win in Serie A over Cagliari at the Stadio Sant'Elia on Sunday.

The Bianconeri captain picked up a minor knock near the end of that Champions League match with Zenit, but is now fully recovered and available to Claudio Ranieri once again, according the official Juventus website.

Del Piero is happy to return and of course also pleased with the recent string of victories: "We have achieved a great victory away from home after a difficult game. We are delighted to have begun this important series of matches every three days with victories against Zenit and Cagliari."

The Italian international is likely to start the match against the Sicilians along with the in-form Amauri, while Vincenzo Iaquinta should find himself in a substitute role. Del Piero's quick return is even more important as it had recently been confirmed that David Trezeguet will be missing three to five months of action.

Juve will be confident of obtaining three points when they host Catania, but the Elefanti may be spurred on by the fact they are only one point behind the Bianconeri.

Del Piero Reflects Upon Old Lady Marriage

Del Piero Reflects Upon Old Lady Marriage

Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero has reflected on his 15 year marriage with the Old Lady and he insists he is delighted at having played in the black and white jersey for so long.

The captain, talisman and all round hero is the club's all time top scorer and apperance record holder.

He signed from Padova in 1993 and quickly became their heir to Roberto Baggio's throne. Del Piero has spoken of his love for the Old Lady and he hopes it continues.

"I am very happy to have spent all this time at the club," said Del Piero.

"I have shared so many ambitions, battles, victories and defeats but I am happy.

"My marriage with Juventus has been fantastic and I have enjoyed every second."

His coach Claudio Ranieri also spoke about Pinturricchio and he was full of praise for his star captain.

"Del Piero isn't a champion because of his technical ability which everyone knows about but because of his seriousness, morality and professionalism as well as his willingness to put his own needs second for the black and white jersey," added Ranieri.

The Bianconeri clash with Catania in week four of Serie A and the league leaders will be hoping for more points as they continue their good start to the 2008/09 season.

Del Piero is unlikely to feature however, with his coach deciding to rest him and use Vincenzo Iaquinta instead..

Amauri Overjoyed With Juve Form

Amauri Overjoyed With Juve Form

Juventus star Amauri is delighted with his current form after scoring his side’s winner for the second week running.

The giant Brazilian hitman joined Juve in the summer from Palermo for a whopping €22m, a price tag that some critics questioned.

However, the 28-year-old is already paying back large chunks of that fee as yesterday afternoon he proved to be the Old Lady’s matchwinner for the second week in a row during the 1-0 victory at Cagliari.

"It is certainly a happy moment for me," said Amauri.

"I'm trying to seize the opportunities the coach is giving me. This is a victory for the team.”

Amauri will soon be handed an Italian passport, which will make him eligible to play for the Azzurri. The former Chievo man was asked about his partnership up-front with Vincenzo Iaquinta, and whether the pair could possibly link up for the national team.

"Me and Iaquinta for the Italy attack? Now, I can say yes. The two of us may be big, but we have worked well."

Amauri will be hoping to continue his rich vein of form in midweek when Juventus host Catania at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A matchday four.

Buffon Unconcerned About Injury

Buffon Unconcerned About Injury

Juventus goalkeeper Gianliugi Buffon is confident that the injury he sustained against Cagliari today is nothing too serious.

Juventus beat bottom of the table Cagliari 1-0 thanks to a goal from Carvalho Amauri.

However, while the Juve faithful will be happy with the three points, a worrying footnote from the game was the substitution of goalkeeper Buffon due to injury.

The keeper is in high spirits however, and is not showing any signs of worry concerning the injury to his right thigh.

“I felt something like a pin when I kicked out the ball. I asked for the substitution and waited until half time," he said.

"I asked for the substitution and waited until half-time.

"I don’t believe that it is anything serious - at the most I’ll be out for a week - but seeing the saves that Manningher made I can remain calm."

An injury to the world-class goalkeeper would be a major blow for the Bianconeri and the Italian national side, and scans will be used to reveal the full extent of the injury.

Ranieri: «Congratulations to those who had played less»

Ranieri: «Congratulations to those who had played less»

On the eve of the away trip to Sardinia, Claudio Ranieri had bet that those lads who, for whatever reason, had had less chances to show their worth so far, would come out with a good performance. And he's won that bet. At the Sant’Elia, with players of the calibre of Del Piero, Trezeguet, Camoranesi, Zanetti and Zebina staying back at home, and also without Legrottaglie, Poulsen and Grygera, all rested today, and even without Buffon for one half of the match, Juventus still played an excellent game and earned three precious points to take back to Turin.

After the match, he especially congratulated those lads and the strength of the group as a whole. «They did really well and they're all doing good work together. Today we suffered a little near the end because we didn't convert all the chances we created. It wasn't easy playing on this pitch, that's why we were forced to play long balls to cut out the midfield and Amauri was excellent in keeping control of the ball and allowing team mates to come up. Buffon? We'll see tomorrow with the medical staff. We didn't want to risk it and that's why we replaced him after the first half. Let's hope it's nothing serious».

Blanc: «A win for our fans»

Blanc: «A win for our fans»

One year ago around this time, Juventus were getting their first away win after returning to Serie A at Cagliari, an eventful 3-2 win with many risks.

This time it was a less spectacular 1-0 win, but no less important. At the end, only the Bianconeri fans at the Sant’Elia were able to celebrate.

Before leaving Cagliari, Managing Director Jean-Claude Blanc dedicated the win to those fans. «It was the right thing to do going underneath their stands, to show how close we are to our fans: they’re always the focus of all we do. There was great group spirit today, both among the players and among our people. This was an important win because it's never easy to play after the Champions League and I'm happy about the performances of lads such as Manninger and Tiago. They show that the team worked well during the week and they were fully ready to play today when called upon».

Amauri, six points in one week

Claudio Ranieri has never failed to praise how easily the new players have fit in. And indeed it was the new guys who put their stamp on the win at Cagliari: Amauri with another decisive goal, and Manninger with a superb save right at the last minute.

Two goals and six points for Juventus: the Brazilian was again the match winner of the game at the Sant’Elia, after deciding the one against Udinese. «We created several chances and were unable to convert all of them, but the important thing is that we've won. I'm happy about the goal, I always concentrate on doing the best for the team, playing for this Club is the chance of a lifetime and I want to make the most of it. The partnership with Iaquinta is working, but most of all it's the whole squad that's working fine and we try and win all together. Trezeguet? I'm really sorry for his injury, I know what it means to stay out for a long time, but I'm sure he'll come back stronger than ever».
