Chiellini avoids second fracture

Chiellini avoids second fracture
Sunday 29 March, 2009

Giorgio Chiellini’s X-Rays confirmed no new fractures to his nose, so he will be able to face the Republic of Ireland.

The defender was taken to the same hospital as teammate Antonio Di Natale straight after the Italy squad returned to its Coverciano training ground this afternoon.

Already wearing a protective mask for a fractured nose he sustained last week, Chiellini required treatment for bleeding twice during the 2-0 victory in Montenegro.

It was found the Juventus defender sustained a knock, but the mask absorbed most of the impact and prevented a second fracture.

This means he will be able to play against the Republic of Ireland at the Stadio San Nicola on Wednesday evening, again with his protective mask.

Blanc: «We must think of the finances and the youngsters»

Blanc: «We must think of the finances and the youngsters»

Juventus are aiming to be first on the field but also outside the field. With regards to company management and strategy Juventus continue to be avant-garde, just like they were when it came to the building of the stadium.

This was the gist of the discourse made by general manager Jean-Claude Blanc, who spoke in the morning at the Milan Stock Exchange during the annual Star Conference 2009, two days dedicated to the clubs on the stock market as part of the STAR group.

The new stadium, which will be completed for the 2011/12 season continues to be it’s best asset: «It is the apple of our eye, which runs in parallel with those which are our guidelines and those of UEFA, that is the care for finances and the investment in youngsters. With this policy we can return to winning and we are on the right track».

The sporting season is not yet over but the main topic on the media is once again the transfer market, especially in these days which sees the championship on a break due to the international matches. A question to Blanc on this topic is expected: «Thanks to a strong company strategy we have an adequate sum at our disposal with which to purchase a great champion. We will miss Nedved a lot and we will search for somebody to replace him. However, I will not speak of the transfer market out of respect for gthe players who form part of our current squad and who are awaiting the nine matches which up to the end of the championship».

Nine matches, nine finals for Juventus who have no intention of letting go in their attempt to catch up with Inter. «The match against the nerazzurri will be an important one – concluded Blanc – and difficult in match terms. We want to reach the direct encounter in the best of conditions and free from controversy. However, until mathematics does not say the opposite, we will continue to fight».

Brazzo: «We are playing well but we are not looking at the table yet»

Brazzo: «We are playing well but we are not looking at the table yet»

«After the stop due to the tendon problem, I played four consecutive matches and it is only normal that my muscles are a bit tired. It is for this reason that I worked separately from the group yesterday and today, but this was planned and I will return to training with the group in the next few days». Not that there were any doubts, but the statement made by Hasan Salihamidzic is comforting seeing that in the last few matches he seemed to be one of the players in the best condition. Decisive against Bologna and punctual against Roma, Brazzo is satisfying his will to play accumulated during the months he was forced to stop: «Yes, I am happy with my performances but one must say that the whole team has improved. We are playing well and must continue like this even in the next matches. For the time being I am not looking at the table because there are still 27 points to be won and therefore we must think of playing one match at a time. If we maintain this mentality, when there are two or three matches left we will be able to reap the fruits».

De Ceglie ready for comeback

De Ceglie ready for comeback

«The long stop is finally over. Now I have practically two weeks to work in order to recover my best form and therefore I should be available for call-up for the match against Chievo». Paolo De Ceglie is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and after nearly two months since the injury suffered against Napoli in the Coppa Italia on the 4thn of February, he is ready to get back on the field. The Under21 international has been training with the rest of the team for a number days now without feeling the effect of the nasty blow suffered in a collision with Gargano which resulted in the fracture of a rib, the injuring of another two and a pneumo-thoraic injury: «It was quite a blow – recalls Paolo – but as soon as the medical staff and the trainers give the go ahead I will not stop to think about it but try to train to the maximum to regain my best form as soon as possible».

During the last few weeks, Juventus obtained good results and registered five consecutive championship victories: «We must win all the coming matches if we want to keep on fighting for the scudetto – continues De Ceglie – Now a difficult match against Chievo awaits us. Chievo is going through a good time and just like all the teams trying to avoid relegation they will surely give us a hard time. We, however, absolutely want to win the three points».

Legrottaglie, a man of faith and the field

Legrottaglie, a man of faith and the field

Ho fatto una promessa” (I made a promise), is the title of Nicola Legrottaglie’s book which was presented at the Media Center in Vinovo during the press conference which also saw the particpation of Darwin Pastorin and Mariella Scirea. In his book, the defender recounts his experience as a man of faith, faith which supported him in these years and helped him reach his objectives. The first of these was to become a professional player and it id from this wish that the title of the book was born. A promise to GodIf I ever become a Serie A player, I will be a missionary in the world – one can read on the fly-page of the cover. He did his part and now it is my turn».

«In this book I recount my experience, the route of my life, as a footballer and as a man of faith. The two paths are inevitably linked because God is always present in every moment. The message that is conveyed is that He is always by our side and we only have to open up our heart to receive him».

Nicola, besides the book, also spoke of football with Juventus Channel: «Now I am well, my knee is responding and shout be available after the break. My team mates played really well, showing once again that there are no first team players or reserves but that Juventus is a team made up of players of great value».

Juventus’ improvement, not only on a results level has been acclaimed and recognized even by the opponents. Mourinho, himself, spoke well of Ranieri’s team: «This is of great satisfaction to us. Two years ago we were in the Serie B and having got to this point in such a short time competing with a team like Inter is a reason to be proud». With reference to the title of his book Legrottaglie is asked what promise he would like to make to the fans: «That all of us will always give the maximum effort. I cannot promise results, it wouldn’t be right, even if the thing we all want is victory. We for sure, will not let go until the very end».

Vincenzo Iaquinta: My Future Is With Juventus

Vincenzo Iaquinta: My Future Is With Juventus

The Italy international believes Juve can still claim the Scudetto and insists that he is unfazed by transfer rumours.

Juventus forward Vincenzo Iaquinta has earned a starring role in recent weeks due to Amauri’s injury problems and David Trezeguet’s spat with coach Claudio Ranieri. He netted a crucial brace at the weekend as the Bianconeri destroyed Roma 4-1 at the Stadio Olimpico to maintain their Serie A title hopes.
“I am ready to bet on us winning the Scudetto,” the striker told Tuttosport. “We still believe in it and [we] will do so until the very end. This is our mentality; we have this in our DNA.

“As for me, I am like this: if I play, I score goals. This is no time to stoke controversy. I have got over that 'explosion’ in Catania; I was just furious for spending so much time on the bench.”

Iaquinta netted a goal against the Etnei and his wild celebration earned him a yellow card, which proved costly as he was later dismissed for a second offence.

“I feel good now and I started my fifth game on the trot in Rome,” he stated.

“Ranieri has put faith in me and I am repaying him. I have never listened to whispers that wanted me to head for the exit door. My future is here…”

Juventus Are Ready To Renew Pavel Nedved’s Contract - Agent

Juventus Are Ready To Renew Pavel Nedved’s Contract - Agent

The ‘Czech Fury’ affair keeps rumbling on and his representative has denied that Juve are unwilling to extend his stay.

Between them, Inter ace Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juve star Pavel Nedved have put agent Mino Raiola under the Italian media spotlight in recent weeks.

The representative has dodged questions over Ibrahimovic’s future this morning, after the Swedish striker hinted at a possible departure from Inter next summer, but reiterated that Nedved could reconsider his decision to call it a day at Juve at the end of the season.

“He said his goodbyes, but I will try and make him play on,” Raiola told Calciomercato.it.

“Of course, if Juve had other plans, it would be pointless. But that’s not what I have heard.

“Juve have told me that if Pavel will decide to continue his career, they are ready to offer a contract extension.

Nedved has been struggling with injury problems in recent weeks, but made a substitute appearance at the weekend and netted a stunning goal against Roma, as Juve triumphed 4-1 at the Olimpico.

Agent: Pavel Nedved Will Play On

Agent: Pavel Nedved Will Play On

The representative for the Bianconeri ace is confident that the ‘Czech Fury’ will reconsider his retirement plans.

Juventus' midfield dynamo Pavel Nedved announced his decision to quit football last month, but the campaign to persuade the 36-year-old to keep playing is gaining momentum.

Coach Claudio Ranieri also pleaded with the ex-Lazio man to further extend his career last night, after Nedved came off the bench to score a wonderful goal in Juve’s 4-1 drubbing of Roma.

And his agent Mino Raiola has further fuelled speculation that his client will be persuaded into signing a new contract.with the bianconeri.

“Will he quit? I think he will play on, and could do so for five more years,” the representative is quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I will do everything in my power to make sure he [Nedved] wears the Juve shirt again next season,” commented Mino Raiola.

“There is still hope until September. He simply would like to retire to make room for young players.”

Nedved has said that it was his wife that implored him to call it a day.

Ranieri: «A sense of practicality and speed. I liked the team»

Ranieri: «A sense of practicality and speed. I liked the team»

Claudio Ranieri was right to fear a injury-afflicted yet dangerous Roma. The giallosrossi did their part and there was the need of the best Juventus to beat them in fact one of the best Juventus performances this season. The 4-1 obtained at the Olimpico, just like in 2006 keeps the bianconeri on track.

At the end of the match, the Juventus coach did not change his opinion on the championship and on the objectives of his team. «We always give the maximum when we play trying to improve with each match, knowing that a team that wants to win must first think of itself. I am especially happy with the spirit shown by these boys. It is great how they always do their best to win. Tonight we played an injury-afflicted Roma but which had its public behind it. We played well maintaining the right distances and the right geometry. I liked the speed and the practicality. Well done for Iaquinta. Recently he had a few minor injuries but now he is fresh and can push hard. Nedved? I hope he changes his mind and does not retire. I would always want to have a player like him in the dressing room».

Mellberg: «It is a very important victory»

Another good performance and a great goal. This is the outcome of Mellberg’s match against Roma. The Swede is slowly becoming a point of reference in the defence and seeing from his goal today a regular scorer in Rome.

Here are the words of the Viking from Sweden: «It’s true this stadium brings me luck. It is a very important victory. It is always a difficult match against Roma but we played well. I think for us to win the championship, Inter are the ones who have to make a few mistakes but we must just look at ourselves and see what happens».

Olof seems to have settled well with Juventus especially when one considers that he came from an experience in English football: «When you come to a new team you never know how much you will be playing. We had a good pre-season and I think this was important for me to settle. I feel very much at ease with my colleagues in the defence and with Chiello with whom I think I played some good matches».

The young Sebastian Giovinco has shown great personality and has been in constant crescendo in the last matches showing a great form: «I am happy. It was important to win and play as we did in the last matches keeping up the consistency».

The Atomic Ant is constantly getting more used to captain Del Piero and the other veterans: «When there are technical players it is normal to take advantage and this favours Alex and Iaquinta. I am happy to play with him and get more used to him. I always tried to do my best and my team mates are helping me a great deal. I still have a lot to learn».

Iaquinta: «Now let us win the other nine matches!»

The years pass but Juventus does not seem to lose one of its best attributes: never stop to rejoice for a victory but think immediately of the next match.

This is perfectly understood by Vincenzo Iaquinta.

Mere minutes after the splendid 4-1 against Roma and the fifth consecutive victory the striker is already thinking of what is to come after the break: «We will continue looking at ourselves and not at Inter. There are still nine matches to go and we want to win them all, pursuing this route. Today I am happy with my performance and that of the team. We were compact. Team-spirit has always been our strength and we showed this once again tonight».

Ranieri's wary of Roma

Ranieri's wary of Roma
Friday 20 March, 2009

Juventus tactician Claudio Ranieri is delighted with the way his team are progressing ahead of Saturday's date with Roma.

The Bianconeri are currently in second place, seven points shy of leaders Inter but five ahead of Milan in third.

Ranieri knows that failure to beat Roma in the capital may effectively end Juve's title hopes, but he is happy with the way his men are playing.

“I am happy that we are still seen as title contenders, even if we know that only one side can lose the Scudetto now,” the ex-Parma man said.

“We have so much to build on and we are just looking to keep improving in all aspects.

“We need to stay realistic. Last year we would have been happy to get into Europe and so booking a Champions League place was fantastic.

“And this year we are having another superb campaign, but we aren't satisfied because that's Juve's nature. If we are 10 out of 10 we want 11.”

Ranieri is expecting a tough test against Roma, in spite of the Giallorossi's injury problems.

“It will be a different Roma side but that doesn't mean they will necessarily be weaker,” he warned.

“The public have shown how they can charge the side as they did against Arsenal.

“We will have to be the best Juventus possible if we are to come out on top.

“Will Sebastian Giovinco play? I won't say because I will think about that on the eve of the game.

“I think he is in form now and we saw what he is capable of against Bologna where he exploded. Now he just needs to stay grounded.”

Medical report: Nedved recovers for Saturday match

Today Marco Marchionni participated fully in the training session. The midfielder has therefore recovered totally from the muscle strain from which he was suffering last week.

There is good news even for Pavel Nedved who has completely recovered from the injury suffered during Juventus-Chelsea.

Nicola Legrottaglie had a sepereate training programme and Claudio Marchisio did not take part in today’s training session due to a pain to the right knee as a result of a blow suffered during the match against Napoli. The conditions of both players will be evelauted tomorrow.

Mauro Camoranesi, Paolo De Ceglie and Cristiano Zanetti are proceeding with success in their work with the trainers.

Silva nearly a Juventino

Silva nearly a Juventino
Thursday 19 March, 2009

Juventus are reportedly very close to making Valencia winger David Silva their first summer signing, according to the Italian Press.

The Bianconeri have long been admirers of Silva who was a member of the Spain squad that won Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland.

Juventus director of sport Alessio Secco has announced his intention to bring the 23-year-old to Turin on several occasions.

Valencia are in grave financial trouble and are planning to sell their biggest stars this summer to raise some much needed capital.

Los Che are reportedly in debt to the tune of £450m and have had to postpone the construction of a new stadium.

Valencia want any deal done quickly and are believed to be holding out for £16m, which is said to suit Juventus.

The Turin giants have reportedly set £20m aside to replace the 36-year-old Pavel Nedved, who will retire at the end of the season.

Silva is contracted to Valencia until 2013 and receives a salary of £2.5m, a wage Juventus are confident they can match.

Having suffered an ankle injury at the start of the season, Silva has made just 15 appearances for Los Che in 2008-09.

Marchisio: «Let us believe in it together»

Marchisio: «Let us believe in it together»

There are less then ten days to the finish line. The end of the championship draws closer week after week and Juventus has no intention of letting go. With the adventure in the Champions League having come to an end and notwithstanding a number of absentees the bianconeri are looking to the future with optimism.

The Serie A is in the crucial moment and Ranieri’s team continues with its attempt to reach the top. Two days before the match against Roma it was Claudio Marchisio who analyzed the situation. The midfielder was the guest of Filo Diretto on Juventus Channel: «We are playing a great championship and we intend to believe in it till the very end. There are still many points at our disposal and even Inter are beginning to feel the fatigue from the many commitments. This is the decisive moment. We must try to obtain the maximum in the next three matches against Roma, Chievo and Genoa to get to the match against Inter in the best condition».

The first of the three matches, which is important to get to the break in t5he best condition, will be in Rome against the giallorossi. On Saturday night, two historical rivals will be meeting but both teams are facing formation problems. The young midfielder does not want to add his name to the list of unavailable players: I suffered a blow to my knee during the match against Bologna but I am doing everything possible to recover. We know that even they have problems with missing players but this does not mean that they will be more dangerous. All those who will play will give the maximum especially those who had less opportunities to show their worth up ton now».

The capital will therefore see the arrival of a Juventus determined to win all the points. After 4 consecutive victories, the bianconeri will want to obtain the pokerissino. The match will see a highly charged team promises Marchisio: «Our group is as united as ever. We were all very sad about the elimination from the Champions League but we united and against Bologna we came back in the best of manners».

Juve urge Nedved to play on

Juve urge Nedved to play on
Wednesday 18 March, 2009

Juventus have confirmed they are trying to convince Pavel Nedved to postpone his retirement for another year.

The Czech has threatened numerous times to hang up his boots, but insists this summer he really will call it a day.

“What I wanted to tell Nedved is that he is an example for everyone and players like him are rare in an organisation,” member of the Board of Directors Gian Paolo Montali told Sky Italia.

“Clearly the only thing that could irritate him a little is the fact he would have to play less in the future, as he is accustomed to being first choice and a regular spot on the field.

“But if we can make him understand that his support to the team would still be incredibly important, including in the locker room and with his behaviour, then I think we could convince him to continue for another year.”

Nedved will turn 37 in August and began his professional career at Sparta Prague in 1992.

Cobolli Gigli archives Trez troubles

Cobolli Gigli archives Trez troubles
Wednesday 18 March, 2009

Juventus chief Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has downplayed the feud between Claudio Ranieri and David Trezeguet.

Trez was furious when he was replaced during the Old Lady's Champions League exit at the hands of Chelsea.

And the Frenchman's public comments landed him in hot water with Ranieri, prompting suggestions he could quit the club.

“I saw Trezeguet training with Ranieri yesterday,” Cobolli Gigli revealed.

“I think the argument was resolved by Jean-Claude Blanc's declarations after the game on Saturday.

“We need to be strongly focused at the moment and I hope that Trez will train hard and be ready when Ranieri calls upon him.”

There have been rumours in the Italian Press that Milan are plotting a bold swoop for Juve striking star Amauri.

“It's just talk,” Cobolli Gigli insisted. “Amauri isn't for sale - he is one of our great champions, like Trezeguet.

“They are very important to this club and their futures are linked to the club.

“As for summer signings, there is a list and Blanc is working on that with Alessio Secco. Clearly the first thing is to look for a replacement for Pavel Nedved.”

Juve take on Roma in a crucial encounter this weekend at the Stadio Olimpico in the Italian capital.

“It is an extremely important game, like any other” the Bianconeri chief said.

“We just have to try and win our next 10 games and see if the other sides at the top lose.”

Molinaro: «We must win as main points as possible»

Molinaro: «We must win as main points as possible»

Juventus is determined not to let go of anything but to give all they can with all the available weapons to keep the title race open: courage, determination and a will to win.

This imagine is a perfect reflection of Cristian Molinaro. The fullback from Salerno is one of the “always present” players and even in a season with so many injuries he continues in his consistency.

Three days before the match against Roma, which will be the first of the final 10 matches of the championship, Molinaro spoke to Juventus Channel and sounded his battle cry: «30 points? It is an important objective and it is our intention to do all in our power not to let go of anything while awaiting the match against Inter. We always showed that we are not inferior to anybody».

This stands to show that Ranieri’s team will want to keep it up even on Saturday night against the Olimpico against the giallorossi. The two teams have just suffered an unlucky elimination from the Champions League and both have a number of absentees. Cristian however does not want to take this into consideration: «Roma is a team which should never be underestimated even when it is not complete. They are always organized and for this reason we will have to be careful and determined».

The same goes for Juventus. Against Bologna, Mr Ranieri had to deal with many absentees but the bianconeri responded greatly, just like they did throughout the season: «Whether we have the complete squad or a state of emergency – concluded Molinaro – we always give the maximum and the same will apply for the remaining matches. How I feel? Very well, I am in great shape and I hope to maintain this till the end of the season even though I know you cannot always be 100% fit»

Chiellini back on the field in record time

With Roma on the horizon Juve has stepped down hard on the accelerator. A high intensity training session was on schedule this morning with the only absentees being Amauri, Manninger and Sissoko. The last two were present in Vinovo. The goalkeeper worked in the gym while the midfielder dropped in on the training session sporting crutches. Buffon was back in his usual place after having been granted a day off yesterday for personal reasons. Different work load for Marchionni, Zanetti, Legrottaglie, Ekdal and Camoranesi who are each undergoing a personalised schedule made up by the trainers. The objective is to reduce risks as much as possible and to help them find their best form. This will be aided by next week’s break from the championship. Nedved, Trezeguet and Chiellini have all recovered fully with the defender doing so in record time. In fact Chiellini participated in the whole session sporting a nose protection a mere 48 hours after the operation to his nose. The training session was followed by a special guest, that is actor Alessandro Preziosi who is currently performing Shakespeare’s Hamlet in Turin.

Totti set to miss Juve

Totti set to miss Juve
Wednesday 18 March, 2009

Roma captain Francesco Totti looks increasingly unlikely to play against Juventus this weekend.

The inspirational Giallorossi star has struggled with regular injuries over the last two seasons.

Totti's latest thigh problem has prevented him from training today at Trigoria, making him likely to miss out on the Stadio Olimpico encounter with Juve.

Striker Mirko Vucinic was also absent and is a doubt for the Eternal City clash.

Luciano Spalletti has a team of walking wounded at present with Marco Motta, Rodrigo Taddei, Alberto Aquilani and Julio Baptista all struggling for fitness.

Midfield star Simone Perrotta worked on a bike today in order to avoid contact, as did Marco Cassetti.

Jeremy Menez joined the rest of the players for full training, but Cicinho and Juan are in their native Brazil for treatment.

Trez maintains Ranieri silence

Trez maintains Ranieri silence
Tuesday 17 March, 2009

David Trezeguet confessed he has not yet spoken to Claudio Ranieri, as Juventus prepare a fine for his outburst.

The striker complained bitterly to French newspaper L’Equipe last week about his substitution in the final minutes of the 2-2 draw with Chelsea, prompting Ranieri to call him “a spoilt child.”

Trez was out of the squad for Saturday’s Serie A game against Bologna due to an injury, so today the two men worked together for the first time since that incident in training.

“Did I speak to Ranieri? No,” was his response when walking out of the session this evening.

Director Alessio Secco also attended the training ground, but did not hold court with Trezeguet either, though the player’s father and agent did sit in the stands.

It is reported the delay is so the club can come together and work out how much they will fine the Frenchman.

A meeting is said to be scheduled either tonight or in the morning with general manager Jean Claude Blanc.

The matter cannot be allowed to slide for too long, as Juve desperately need forwards for the trip to Roma.

Amauri is out for six weeks, so this leaves only Alessandro Del Piero, Vincenzo Iaquinta and possibly Sebastian Giovinco, who until now has been used as a wide midfielder.

Mellberg's march on Rome

Mellberg's march on Rome
Tuesday 17 March, 2009

Olof Mellberg warns Juventus “must win at Roma” to maintain the seven-point gap from Serie A leaders Inter.

This weekend looks set to favour the Nerazzurri, who welcome relegation strugglers Reggina to San Siro while Juve visit the Olimpico.

“Even if we are facing a very strong side and it will be a difficult game, we cannot afford any slip-ups,” said the defender.

“It is likely Inter will beat Reggina on home turf and so we must win as well to maintain the gap.”

Both sides are struggling with an injury crisis going into this clash, but Mellberg assures it has become second nature to them.

“Absences won’t be decisive for either team. For example, we had many players injured during October, November and December, but we still won almost every match. Now we must do the same.”

Both Juve and Roma were also recently eliminated from the Champions League to late goals, or in the Giallorossi’s case a sudden death penalty shoot-out.

The Bianconeri seem to have bounced back well from that exit by thrashing Bologna 4-1, even though they were trailing at half-time.

“We conceded a goal that is reminiscent of others we have let in, but it must also be noted that aside from that one incident, we did not really come under pressure,” continued Mellberg.

“In previous games with Torino, Napoli and Chelsea we were very careful in defence and I think that is an aspect that bears underlining.”

Giovinco Can Emulate Del Piero At Juventus - Agent

Sebastian Giovinco certainly proved to be ready to take his chance on Saturday, when he put in a dazzling performance for Juventus in an emphatic 4-1 victory over Bologna in Turin.

There has been speculation that Giovinco could be on his way out of the club, but his agent, Claudio Pasqualini, his laid those rumours to rest.

"We believe that Sebastian has what it takes to stay at Juve and follow in the footsteps of [Alessandro] Del Piero," he told Radio Kiss Kiss.

"The last performance confirmed his positive attitude and that it was the right choice to reject any potential sale. I remember there was talk of Sampdoria, the arrival of [Antonio] Cassano and Giovinco to the Blucerchiati. The facts show that we were right to reject these possibilities."

Pasqualini also commented on where he considers his client is best utilized on the field of play.

"I think Giovinco gives his best when he acts as a second striker, not as a trequartista or on the outside. He greatest influence is when he plays just inside an out-and-out striker," he concluded.

The 22-year-old talent has made 19 appearances for the Bianconeri this season in all competitions.
