Report: Juventus Could Appoint Ciro Ferrara As Caretaker Coach

The Juve directors are reportedly considering handing the reins to the former defender.

Claudio Ranieri's days at Juventus seem to be numbered after yesterday’s disappointing 2-2 home draw with relegation battlers Lecce and Turin-based daily Tuttosport claims that the Old Lady board could decide to bring in Ciro Ferrara for the final four games of the season.
The 42-year-old is currently acting as assistant manager to Marcello Lippi in the Italian national side, but he is also Juve’s youth academy director.

It would be an unexpected twist as the Turin giants have not sacked a coach in 40 years. Argentine Luis Carniglia was the last man to get the boot in 1969 and was replaced by Ercole Rabitti, who was coincidentally the youth academy’s director at the time.

Ferrara is a respected figure amongst the Bianconeri support and is considered the ideal candidate to salvage the season and secure a top-three finish to avoid the Champions League preliminaries.

Juventus have not claimed the full points in over a month, picking up only four points from their last five games and have dropped to third place in the table with a five-point advantage over Fiorentina, who lie fourth with four games left to play.
