Legrottaglie Signs New Juventus Contract

Official: Legrottaglie Signs New Juventus Contract

As goal.com suggested earlier in the day, Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie has signed a new contract with the club.

The towering centre-back, whose previous contract expired at the end of the current season, has extended his deal until the summer of 2010.

He has been rewarded for some superb performances this term and will earn approximately €1m a year.

Legrottaglie is the second Juventus player in weeks to sign a new contract, following in the footsteps of Alessandro Del Piero.

There were high hopes for the ex-Chievo man when he joined the club in 2003, however the pressure of playing for one of Italy's giants initially seemed too much for the defender and he had a nightmare first year in Turin.

When Fabio Capello took over as Coach in 2004, he immediately made it clear that he did not fancy Legrottaglie and loaned him out twice to Bologna and Siena.

The 31-year-old returned when Capello left last summer but he was only a bit-part player in the Serie B promotion campaign under Didier Deschamps.

However since coming on as a substitute in the week four match against Roma this term, Legro has finally burst onto the scene and he has ben a colossus alongside Giorgio Chiellini at the heart of the defence.
