Ranieri: «More than a friendly against United»
After almost a week, the English tour is nearing its conclusion. The team carried out their last training session in the London area this morning – on the pitch at the Grove Country Estate Hotel – and tomorrow, Wednesday August 6th, they'll be travelling on to Manchester, where in the evening (at 8 pm local time, 9 pm in Italy) they'll be facing Manchester United in one of the most intriguing friendlies of their summer schedule.
In fact, it's more than a friendly, as Claudio Ranieri himself pointed out at today's press conference: «These matches are too evocative to be considered friendlies. It'll definitely be another good test for us. Things have been going well so far, I'm getting a good vibe. We're well on our way to being match-fit and the lads are digesting their workload very well».
After the two tough tests against Arsenal and Hamburg, here's another chance to take another step forward just one week from the qualifiers' first leg. At the same time as Bratislava Artmedia and Tampere will face each other challenging for a place against Juventus, the team will get another taste of Europe at Old Trafford: «I won't be announcing my starting eleven beforehand, but I'll definitely be playing those who played less and who need it the most, such as the Italian internationals and Poulsen. My intention is to give a good pace to the match, without too many changes. The 4-3-3 formation? I would've liked to try that, but to do so I would've preferred to have everybody available, especially Molinaro and Zanetti. Cristiano is feeling better, but we don't want to risk him».
Finally, he mentioned Sunday's game against Hamburg one more time. «I accept the result at face value. We made mistakes, things that wouldn't have happened in a League game. In any case there were also some positives».
