Buffon: 1-1 was correct
Gigi Buffon believes a draw was the right result against a Bordeaux side who were better than Juventus expected.
The two outfits played out a 1-1 in Turin last night as the Champions League kicked off across Europe.
The Italian giants did have enough chances to win the game in the second period, but had to settle for a point after the visitors enjoyed the better of the opening 45 minutes.
“We didn’t underestimate Bordeaux, even if they did demonstrate that they were better than we perhaps thought,” the ‘keeper stated. “The result, considering the match, was a fair one.”
Buffon made a key contribution to the Bianconeri cause with a string of fine saves to keep frustrating the French.
“I’m happy that I did my job well, but at the same time it is disappointing that I conceded a goal which didn’t allow us a win.”
The Champions League is a realistic target at Vinovo this season, but the goalkeeper insists they must improve if they are to seriously challenge.
“We have to get better,” he added. “We showed against Lazio that we know how to suffer during games, but that is not enough in Europe.
“You have to play better football and you can only do that by winning and playing with more personality.”
