Juve unite against Trez tantrum

David Trezeguet is increasingly frozen out at Juventus after President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli sided with Claudio Ranieri.

The striker caused controversy when he complained to French newspaper L’Equipe at his substitution against Chelsea, prompting the Coach to call him “a spoilt child.

“His words really annoyed me, as usually these things remain within the locker room. I feel betrayed by him as a man more than a player, and that is the worst thing.

“After [Giorgio] Chiellini’s dismissal we weren’t playing with 10 men, we were playing with nine. Trezeguet wasn’t really playing any more and I needed someone who would fight and hold the ball up, like Amauri.

“Trezeguet touched the ball six times in the first half and six in the second, which included a great assist and a header. When I saw we couldn’t get round Chelsea any more, I introduced Amauri, who is Juve’s top scorer.

“I let Trezeguet play for 80 minutes in the most important game of the season. I’ve always held him in high esteem, but maybe he didn’t do the same for me.”

Now the club is standing by Ranieri and effectively freezing Trezeguet out, although they stop short of pledging his departure.

“Like everyone in our team, he wants to play, but he will stay at Juve because he has a contract and is one of our four star strikers,” said President Cobolli Gigli.

“As for Ranieri, he will remain and continue working with [general manager Jean-Claude] Blanc to build an even more competitive squad.

“I am very satisfied with the way Ranieri set out Juventus and the changes he made. I also say that without taking anything away from Chelsea, we could have qualified from this round.”

The Bianconeri are looking to the future and Trezeguet might not be a part of the squad next season when they will stage a stronger assault on the Champions League.

“We are determined to be very competitive,” continued Cobolli Gigli.

“Let us not forget that two years ago we were in Serie B and our financial clout is that of a club in the stock market that must pay its own way.”
