Buffon still number one
Two weeks before his 30th birthday, Gigi Buffon has received his first, absolutely deserved, gift. The IFFHS, the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, has designated our keeper as the world’s best in his role for the year 2007.
Buffon had already won the honour in 2003, 2004 and 2006, and he is in first place in this too, as no other footballer in the world had ever been able to come first in his category in four different editions: another sign of Buffon's greatness.
In this last edition, Gigi preceded those that are considered by many to be the best keepers in the business after him, i.e. Cech, Chelsea's Czech keeper, and Real Madrid's Casillas. In fourth place, former Juventus keeper Edwin Van der Sar, currently at Manchester United.
