Albertini: I'd take Del Piero
Wednesday 23 April, 2008
FIGC official and former Italy International Demetrio Albertini says he would take Alessandro Del Piero in his Euro 2008 squad.
The 36-year-old is an adviser and close friend to Azzurri boss Roberto Donadoni through his role with the Italian Football Federation.
Albertini also played alongside Don for seven years with Milan and the Nazionale and thinks his old teammate should include Del Piero in his squad for the European Championship.
“I would bring Del Piero along for the Finals but, then again, I am not the Coach,” declared Albertini.
The Juventus talisman has been in devastating form of late, scoring a hat trick against Empoli on Sunday to take his Serie A tally for 2007-07 to 17.
“I am happy for him. He is doing very well, a great season in fact. At this rate, he'll give Donadoni some problems, but he has never closed the door in anyone's face,” ended Albertini.
The Nazionale tactician has been accused of purposely ignoring Del Piero due to a disagreement between the two, an allegation he has strongly denied.
