Chelsea To Decide On Cudicini’s Future
Chelsea To Decide On Cudicini’s Future
The agent of Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has played down speculation linking the Italian with a summer move to Juventus, insisting the Londoners will first get a chance to extend the stopper’s contract before he and his client approach other clubs.
Italian Federico Pastorello stated that Chelsea will definitely make the key decision on whether Cudicini stays at Stamford Bridge or indeed leaves.
The agent pointed to the eight-year association Cudicini has had with the West London club, as well as the fact the keeper loves living in the capital, as reasons to why communication between the club and player is paramount before talks are held with other clubs.
Aston Villa are one of the clubs reportedly trying to turn Cudicini’s head, but a more likelier destination for Chelsea’s no.2 keeper will be back to his native land, where former Blues boss now Juventus manager Claudio Ranieri awaits with open arms.
“I cannot say much until the end of the season, given that Chelsea are still busy on two fronts,” said Pastorello.
“The fact is, his contract expires in 2009.
“We give the priority to Chelsea because London has become a second home to him after 10 years at The Blues."
Pastorello also revealed that Cudicini could have left the club last summer when Manchester City came in with an offer, but it was rejected.
“Aston Villa? We will see at the end of the season, but Cudicini has already had a great offer in England,” added Pastorello.
“Last summer Eriksson wanted him at Manchester City, but Chelsea wanted to keep him.”
