Ranieri Wants Cudicini As Buffon Deputy
According to Tuttosport, Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri is hoping to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini to act as Gianluigi Buffon’s deputy next season.
The Bianconeri are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season’s two-front attack on Serie A and Europe.
One position that needs to be fortified is the backup goalkeeper position, as current number two Emanuele Belardi has failed to impress when given the chance.
Ranieri is looking to snap up Chelsea reserve Carlo Cudicini, who was considered by some as the best goalkeeper in the Premiership during Ranieri’s spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The 34-year-old joined The Blues in 1999, but he has played only 23 Premier League games for the Blues since Petr Cech’s arrival in 2004.
The Italian has four years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge but he is keen to return to Italy.
Cudicini, who grew up in the Milan youth system, has never been capped by Italy, although he is a former Under-21 international, making seven appearances for the Azzurrini back in 1993.
The ex-Castel di Sangro man is the son of former Roma and Milan custodian Fabio Cudicini, who despite being regarded as one of the best goalkeepers of his generation, also never played for Italy.
