Furious Del Neri Blasts His Side

Furious Atalanta coach Gigi Del Neri has blasted his men as they lost 4-0 at home to a rampant Juventus side.

A hat-trick from Alessandro Del Piero and an early header by Nicola Legrottaglie was enough to bury the Nerazzurri. Atalanta were poor for most of the 90 minutes and Del Neri is not a happy man.

“Yes, Del Piero hurt us, but we gave them too much too early and they punished us,” Del Neri told Domenica Stadio.

“The game was over within the first five minutes but they deserved to win.

“They are great side and they put us in great difficulty. We have to concentrate more because we allowed them to take the game.

“A team like us cannot afford to let sides like Juventus play their game, we made too many mistakes and we need to learn from them and improve, some players let us down today.

“I am not happy with the result as well as our position in the league. The second half was better but again it’s not good enough.”

Atalanta remain mid-table and their hopes of UEFA Cup football are beginning to fade.
