Juve Reject Iaquinta Bid

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Juventus have rejected a transfer bid from Wolfsburg for Vincenzo Iaquinta, however AS Roma are ready to launch an offer of their own.

Wolfsburg, funded by German car manufacturing giants Volkswagen, are one of the most ambitious teams in Germany, and they have signalled their intentions for the future by surprisingly signing Palermo’s highly-rated Italy international defenders Cristian Zaccardo and Andrea Barzagli.

The Corriere says that they failed in their attempts to buy a third Italy international when Juventus rejected an undisclosed bid for Vincenzo Iaquinta.

The 28-year-old striker only signed for Juve from Udinese last summer, and despite a good season, he was left increasingly frustrated at having largely been a substitute for the prolific David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero.

Iaquinta made just nine starts in Serie A all campaign, and the arrival of Amauri from Palermo, and the return of pocket dynamo Sebastian Giovinco from Empoli, has made it look increasingly likely that he will leave this summer.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti is a huge admirer of Iaquinta, having successfully coached him at Udinese in the past.

The Giallorossi, having been put off by the transfer price of Ajax’s Klaas Jan Huntelaar, are now ready to make a bid of around €12m for Iaquinta, who is believed to have made it known that he wants to make the move to Rome.
