Stankovic nears Juve switch
Friday 27 June, 2008
Juventus are close to signing Dejan Stankovic after agreeing personal terms with the Inter outcast.
Stankovic’s future at the Nerazzurri was compromised by his staunch defence of former boss Roberto Mancini and new Coach Jose Mourinho seems to be keen to get rid of the Serbian star.
According to Tuttosport, Stankovic has been told that he won’t be allowed to join the rest of the squad for their pre-season camp in South Tyrol on July 19 and he will be forced to train with the youth team if he doesn’t find another club.
In spite of protests from Juve fans, who hold a grudge against Stankovic for snubbing them when he left Lazio in 2004, the Old Lady are set to step in and spare the versatile midfielder that indignity and have reportedly agreed a fee of around £7m with Inter.
Reports now suggest that Stankovic has agreed to lower his wage demands to £2.5m per year in order to pen a deal with Juve.
Meanwhile, the Turin giants continue to be linked with further midfield reinforcement in the shape of Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso and his teammate in the Spanish national side Marco Senna.
