Turin tussle over Knezevic
Friday 27 June, 2008
A Turin derby is brewing as Juventus and Torino fight for the signature of Livorno defender Dario Knezevic.
The Croatian defender, who has just returned from Euro 2008, is looking for a new club after the Labronici’s relegation from Serie A.
And it seems that the 26-year-old won’t have trouble finding an offer as he is on Juve and Toro’s shopping list.
But a confusing situation has developed after the Old Lady seemed to have agreed a deal with Knezevic only to discover that Livorno President Aldo Spinelli has already accepted an offer from their city rivals.
According to La Stampa, Torino have successfully bid £1.6m plus co-ownership of midfield prodigy Davide Bottone and have also offered Knezevic a bigger contract than he would receive with the Bianconeri.
Juventus have already signed Olof Mellberg on a free transfer, but they are looking to replace Lazio-owned defender Guglielmo Stendardo who spent last season in Turin on loan.
