Buffon: A Special Win
Gianluigi Buffon has admitted that he was overjoyed after Juventus picked up a win against Zenit St Petersburg on their return to the Champions League last night.
The Bianconeri were playing their first game in Europe’s premier club competition for almost two-and-a-half years, and they returned in style by defeating Zenit 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.
It was a far from vintage performance by Juve, as Zenit controlled long periods of the match, but a piece of individual brilliance from Alessandro Del Piero meant that the locals went home happy.
“At first we were a bit shy, we felt the moment as it was like a new debut for us after some time,” said Buffon.
“In matches like this it's important not to concede a goal, because with the great players we have up front, we can always score one ourselves.
“This win has a special meaning; we'd been waiting for it for a long time, and so did our fans.”
Juve will be hoping to make it two wins out of two in Group H on September 30 when they travel to Belarus to take on BATE.
