Deschamps: Trezeguet Could Be Juventus’ Key
The former Bianconeri boss has admitted that he will not be supporting either side on
Former French international midfielder Didier Deschamps played for both Juventus and Chelsea during his successful career and is looking forward to their Champions League showdown at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
“It’s an exciting meeting and it will be interesting to see who will prevail,” Deschamps told Turin-based daily La Stampa.
“Juve have a more solid squad but Chelsea are a more technical side. The Bianconeri have a solid system and their 4-4-2 formation gives them plenty of guarantees. They are a very clinical and determined outfit - your typical Juve.
“As for Chelsea, they were not functioning properly under [Luiz Felipe] Scolari and his 4-3-3 [formation] was on a dead-end road. There was some sort of traffic jam in the middle of the park and little action on the flanks. But [new manager Guus] Hiddink is a shrewd man and he already fixed a few things on Saturday [against Aston Villa].
"Which side will I support? I will be a neutral spectator..."
David Trezeguet has just returned to action after undergoing knee surgery and netted a goal in Palermo at the weekend but he is expected to make way for Alessandro Del Piero and Amauri at Stamford Bridge.
“Claudio Ranieri has a wealth of options,” mused Deschamps. "If David is feeling good, it will be very hard to leave him on the bench. A single goal can be decisive in this type of match.”
