Trez: I’m not leaving

Trez: I’m not leaving
Thursday 5 June, 2008

Juventus marksman David Trezeguet has rejected any talk of leaving Turin for Barcelona. “I want to finish my career with the Old Lady.”

Trez was devastating for Juve last term with 20 goals to his name as half of a prolific strike partnership with Alessandro Del Piero.

But with the arrival of Amauri, there have been suggestions that the French star may consider leaving in order to avoid spending time on the bench.

And Juve shareholder John Elkann had hinted that Trez’s future might depend of Barcelona – a suggestion that the man himself rejects.

“I extended my contract until 2011 and I want to conclude my career wearing this shirt,” Trezeguet insisted.

However, the former Monaco man revealed that he had been tempted by the Spanish giants back in 2004-05.

“The club seemed to have made its choices and I wasn’t part of the project,” he said.

“Barca arrived and I came to an agreement with them immediately because they are one of the strongest teams in the world.

“Then Fabio Capello called me and asked why I wanted to leave. I explained and he asked me to stay because he had faith in me.

“Within five minutes I came to an agreement. To be able to work with him was a very good experience because, like Marcello Lippi, he is a Coach who has won everything.

“The rest is history – I think that Juve side of the next few seasons was the strongest of the last 15 years.”
