Gigi demands improvement

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon laments the performance that saw the Old Lady come unstuck against Palermo and demands better next term.

The Bianconeri fell to a 3-2 defeat at the Renzo Barbera having fought back from 2-0 down to 2-2 courtesy of an Alessandro Del Piero brace.

The result didn’t tell the story of a game that Juve could have won and has left the Cadetti champions with a 10-point deficit to second-placed Roma.

“In a way they were three unstoppable goals,” Buffon explained to Tuttosport.

“Sometimes, however, it’s a goalkeeper’s job to move in a way that makes the seemingly unstoppable actually preventable.

“We deserved at least a draw, but unfortunately we didn’t start playing until our opponents were 2-0 ahead.

“These mistakes may not be decisive this year because we are only going for third or fourth place, but next season when we set our sights higher, we cannot afford these slip-ups.”

Juve’s priority now is to protect their six-point cushion over the Champions League chasing pack.

Claudio Ranieri’s side host fifth-placed Milan next weekend in a crunch match, with a gap of just six points separating the two sides.
