David Trezeguet Closes The Door On French International Return

Having intimated that he could be tempted back into the international arena, David Trezeguet has announced that he has reconsidered and will certainly not be turning out for les Bleus again.

Concentrating on getting himself fit enough to play once again for club side Juventus was not the only thought on David Trezeguet’s mind as he spent four months battling injury. His international future was also on the forefront of his thoughts as he discussed a potential return to the French side with l’Equipe in December.

Such thoughts have been clearly placed to one side as he explained to France Football that he would no longer consider playing for les Bleus as he is frustrated with the establishment.

“During my time out injured, I took time to reflect,” he stated. “I analysed the last four years with [French head coach Raymond] Domenech as well as what happened before and after the Euros.

“I am not someone who forgets things and changes his way of thinking. The FFF decided to continue with Domenech, too bad for them! I am not in harmony with the functioning of the French team.”

Trezeguet, who admits that assistant coach of les Bleus Alain Boghossian and World Cup winning coach Aimé Jacquet both tried to change his mind, simply wants to concentrate on his club football with Juventus, with whom he has great ambitions.

In an international career spanning over ten years, Trezeguet played 71 times for his country, scoring 34 goals. The Rouen-born 31 year-old also won the World Cup in 1998 in addition to the European Championships two years later.
