Amauri: «My championship starts against Fiorentina»
8 October 2009
Four victories, two draws, one defeat, second place in the table behind Inter and Sampdoria: when one considers all the changes the start to Juventus’ season is a positive one, but Amauri is not happy enough: «It is not the best start possible because we are Juventus and we have to do better». The Brazilian, protagonist of Filo Diretto on Juventus Channel, before speaking to the supporters gave a small interview to the station during which he spoke of his current moment and of that of the team:
«The way of playing changed and playing with a playmaker behind the attackers means that even the strikers must work more on the wings. In any case we manage to get to the area with a certain consistency. For me, unfortunately, it is not a good time when it comes tos coring but both me and the coach are happy with the work I am doing. Apart from the last two matches, in which I was not up to my standards, I can say that I am there and my championship will begin as from the match against Fiorentina».
Amauri then spoke for a while of the two new signings, Diego and Felipe Melo, as well as of Momo Sissoko who is about to return: «Diego and Felipe have fit in well. They are two great players and have already shown this. Diego had an excellent impact on the Serie A and Felipe is doing very well.
We expect a great deal from both. With regards to Momo, we know how fundamental he is to our midfield because he gives us strength, knows how to control the ball and push forward. We await him with open arms because we surely give us something more».
The striker is still waiting for an Italian passport, but in the meantime he does not hide the fact that he is supporting the azzurri who are about to play against Ireland. The match could see Italy qualifying for the World Cup and Amauri will follow the match as an interested party: «I always was. I followed all the qualifying phase and now what is left is the last step. They will all want to qualify and let us hope they do».
Finally, with regards the proposal to change football rules, like for instance introducing a timed send-off or to reduce the number of players on the field to ten, Amauri shot down the argument with a joke: «The beauty of football lies in the fact that it is simple. Let us also remove the ball and it will become even simpler…».
