Team Talks

Juve Were Great, Unlike Milan - Elkann

John Elkann commented on yesterday afternoon's events as he watched Juventus beat Siena while hoping, in vain, that Milan would take something from the derby against Inter.

Juventus shareholder John Elkann did not want to miss the team's last game of the year yesterday against Siena at the Stadio Comunale of Turin. Along with the Juve management on the stands, he followed the Bianconeri's game with an ear to the radio to follow the Milan derby.

"I hoped in a different result from San Siro," he admitted. Indeed, many Juve fans were seen cheering initially when they heard news that Milan had gone in front, only for the harsh reality to catch up with them again when Inter equalised and eventually won.

"I hoped in a great Milan... instead there was a great Juventus," Elkann continued. The Old Lady beat Siena 2-0 thanks to goals by Hasan Salihamidzic and David Trezeguet, although there was a hint of offside on the first goal.

Also president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli hoped in a more favorable result from the Milan derby.

"For a moment I thought we could lessen the disadvantage we have with Inter," he said. "Instead, we go on like this. But I'm happy with how the team played, it was a nice match."
