Transfer Talk : Stendardo

Stendardo solves Boumsong crisis?
Saturday 26 January, 2008

Juventus could solve the Jean-Alain Boumsong saga by agreeing a loan deal for Lazio defender Guglielmo Stendardo.

Boumsong is already in Lyon ready to complete his move to Olympique Lyonnais and according to today’s Italian newspapers he is refusing to return.

Lyon were furious when Juve suddenly asked to have the player back for next Thursday’s Coppa Italia quarter-final against Inter to make up for an injury crisis in defence.

The situation could be resolved to make everyone happy thanks to the intervention of Lazio.

It is reported that late last night an emergency meeting between directors Jean Claude Blanc and Alessio Secco and the Biancocelesti staff reached an agreement.

Stendardo will go to Juve on loan and the only sticking point is the option to buy at the end of the season, which Lazio want to keep for themselves.

The player has already been alerted to the interest and has his bags packed for a journey to Turin.

Stendardo was expected to leave Lazio in January anyway, as he had a furious row with Coach Delio Rossi and was temporarily frozen out of the squad.

He only returned because their own injury crisis imposed the need for the player.

The Biancocelesti already have a replacement lined up, as central defender Radu is flying in today from Dinamo Bucharest.

Juve had originally hoped to sign Olof Mellberg from Aston Villa, as the Swede has already signed an agreement to join on a free transfer in the summer.

Claudio Ranieri wanted to have him immediately for £500,000 on a six-month loan deal, but the Birmingham club is not eager.
