Transfer Talk : Juve Set To Launch Mascherano Bid

Juve Set To Launch Mascherano Bid

Juventus could be set to make a January transfer bid for Liverpool star Javier Mascherano, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 23-year-old is undoubtedly one of the best defensive midfielders in world football and signed for Liverpool from West Ham in a complicated deal in January 2007.

Mascherano's contract is owned by the international fund of investors, Media Sports Investments (M.S.I), who are demanding €24m for their client to stay at Liverpool permanently.

The Anfield club's owners Tom Hicks and George Gillet are refusing to pay such a sum, thus making it inevitable that Mascherano will leave the club.

Two representatives from Juventus were present at the weekend to watch the Argentine star in action against Manchester City, and they are now set to present an official offer.

The Bianconeri face competition from City themselves, as well as Spanish-giants Barcelona, however both of these sides are said to be unwilling to pay the transfer fee that M.S.I are demanding.

Juventus are well known to be in the market for at least one top-class centre midfielder. While Hamburg’s Rafael Van der Vaart could be the Old Lady’s creative purchase, Mascherano may be the defensive side of the bargain.
