Juve Ponder Ochs & Niemi

Juve Ponder Ochs & Niemi

According to reports in Italy, Juventus are considering whether to sign Salzburg’s Timo Ochs or Fulham’s Antti Niemi, as Gianluigi Buffon’s goalkeeping understudy next season.

The Old Lady are attempting to strengthen their squad ahead of next season’s two-fronted attack on Serie A and Europe.

While the midfield is a particularly well known problem area, there is also a need to find a quality reserve for first choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Current reserve Emanuele Belardi looked very shaky when he filled in last campaign, while Jess Vanstrattan is too inexperienced and could return to his native country of Australia.

According to the latest reports in Italy, the Bianconeri are currently considering two possible backups for Buffon.

The first is 26-year-old German goalkeeper Timo Ochs, who plays for Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, and has been recommended by the club’s former coach Giovanni Trapattoni.

The second option sis Fulham veteran Antti Niemi, 36, who has lost his first team place at Craven Cottage to the American Kasey Keller.

Another name to have been linked to Juve in recent weeks is Chelsea understudy Carlo Cudicini.
