Sources suggest that Juventus have given Sevilla midfielder Christian Poulsen 48 hours to consider a contract offer.

The Old Lady are looking for a new midfielder to replace last summer’s flops Sergio Almiron and Tiago Mendes.

The initial target was Liverpool star Xabi Alonso, but the £15m price tag seems to have ruled out any move.

Danish international Poulsen, who is a more pugnacious proposition, could arrive from Sevilla for around £6m.

According to Italian Press reports, Juve sporting director Alessio Secco made a top-secret trip to Spain yesterday to table a £2.5m four-year contract proposal for Poulsen.

The 28-year-old’s agent Jan Bonnesen is believed to have declared that no less than £3.3m per year would be acceptable, but there are whispers that Poulsen would accept slightly less in order to relocate to Italy.

Poulsen could even join Juve’s squad in Pinzolo next week if an agreement is reached.
