Juventus Director Alessio Secco: Christian Poulsen Must Be More Consistent

The Bianconeri secured a precious win away at Catania yesterday but Alessio Secco feels that match-winning midfielder Christian Poulsen needs to become more consistent.

Juventus defeated Catania 2-1 at the Stadio Massimino yesterday afternoon, courtesy of a Christian Poulsen strike in stoppage time.

The crucial victory enabled the Old Lady to overtake Milan in the Serie A table and keep within sight of runaway leaders Inter.

Poulsen’s goal was even more important on a personal level. The Danish international has failed to impress the Bianconeri fans since completing a summer move from Spanish club Sevilla and such a vital strike will see him rocket in their estimations.

“He needs to play more consistently as there is so much competition in the midfield area and he was out injured for three months,” sporting director Alessio Secco is quoted as saying on Tuttosport.

Vincenzo Iaquinta got a rare start in Sicily as Claudio Ranieri opted to rest captain Alessandro Del Piero. The former Udinese hitman gave his side the lead just ten minutes into the clash, but was dismissed soon after for a second bookable offence.

“Several clubs were keen on Iaquinta in January, but we did not even consider those offers,” said Secco.

Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg allegedly tabled a bid of €10 million to secure the forward’s services.
