Nedved: «I will retire at the end of the season»

The day which the supporters hoped would never come or at least be delayed as much as possible has arrived: Pavel Nedved has decided to retire. The Czech player confirmed this today in front of the microphones of Juventus Channel: «Yes, I have decided to retire. It is surely not because of the defeat against Chelsea. I believe we still have a good chance to go through and to do well in the championship. I always gave everything for football and now I am exhausted, not only physically but also mentally and therefore I think the time has come to say goodbye. I spoke with my family during Christmas time. It is a decision I took with my wife. Ivana would like me to spend more time at home and even I would like to spend more time with my children. I wasn’t able to do for many years and now it is time».

In the past years, Pavel was always close to retiring and always came back. This time, however, his decision is final:«I will not go back on my decision. So much so, to avoid any form of discussion I decided to announce my retirement now. Every year, during the second part of the season there was always somebody who spoke of my possible retirement and about my decisions in this regard, decisions which I always took at the end of the season. This time I think it is right to announce it immediately».

There are still three months during which to collect some satisfaction: «Yes and I think they will be three beautiful months. We are competing on all fronts: championship, Coppa Italia and Champions League. We have a good chance to advance on all three fronts and it only depends on us».
