Juve plot Hamsik raid
Wednesday 21 January, 2009
Juventus are planning a bid for Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik as the Slovakian international continues to be linked with a San Paolo exit, according to Tuttosport.
Hamsik is reportedly upset with the Partenopei and unwilling to stay with the club unless they qualify for next year’s Champions League.
The former Brescia ace was thought to be happy at Napoli, but his agent yesterday said that anything could happen in football.
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis responded that Hamsik should concentrate on his job rather than a move away from the club.
Juventus believe they can tempt Napoli into selling the 21-year-old by including striker Vincenzo Iaquinta in the deal.
Iaquinta has a great relationship with Napoli director of sport Pierpaolo Marino who discovered him at Castel di Sangro and later took him to Udinese when he was 20.
The prospect of exchanging Hamsik for an Italy international striker gives Juventus a definite edge over other interest parties such as Inter, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Hamsik has made 17 appearances for Napoli this season and is the club’s top scorer with seven goals. He was sent off on Sunday against Chievo.
