Amauri Chooses Italy - Report

Amauri Chooses Italy - Report

Juventus' Brazilian-born striker Amauri has chosen to play for Italy over the Selecao, according to Tuttosport...

The former Palermo hit-man is still waiting for his Italian passport to drop through the letter box and, when it does, the chances of him wearing the famous Azzurri shirt will have increased ten fold.

Tuttosport claims the recent snub on the Brazilian by 'Samba Boys' coach Carlos Dunga has not gone down too well with him, leading to increased speculation he is leaning towards the Nazionale.

Italy coach Macello Lippi has always hinted he may call up Amauri in future and thus a place for South Africa 2010 may even be reserved for him should he impress enough with the Old Lady.

Juventus will be delighted if reports regarding Amauri's choice are true. Playing for Italy would mean no long haul trips across the Atlantic Ocean every time he gets a call up; it would benefit the striker and club in the sense that he would not suffer from fatigue or jetlag and he will always be back on time after international duty.

As well as this, once his passport comes through, he will free up an extra non-EU place at the club, which would mean the Bianconeri could sign a player like Diego without affecting their quota for foreign players from outside the European Union.
