Del Piero's Free Kicks May Send Juve Top

Juventus take on Genoa in a Serie A match on Thursday, with the possibility of pulling alongside Inter Milan at the top of the table.

Del Piero has scored with free kicks for the Bianconeri in their last three matches. The Juve captain curled in a phenomenal effort on his 34th birthday on Sunday to help his side to a 2-0 win at Chievo. Indeed, he's defying his age to produce the most impressive form of his career.

His goal against the newly-promoted side came on the back of dead ball strikes in last week's 2-0 Champions League win at Real Madrid and the Serie A victory over Roma two weeks ago.

Del Piero has recently explained, “In reality there are not many ways to take a freekick. The important thing is that it goes in. I don't know the secret. Since I was young I have analysed free kicks and taken them. It's practice.”

On Thursday Juve host Genoa in a match that has been brought forward from the weekend because of Italy's international rugby match against Argentina at Turin's Stadio Olimpico, scheduled for Saturday. Del Piero will hope to put another one of his set-piece specials into the back of the net on Thursday night.

A win for sixth-placed Juventus, who have won their last four league games, would the Bianconeri join Inter Milan at the top of the table, until the weekend when the rest of the round 12 matches take place. Genoa will be a tough nut to crack, however, with Diego Milito in superb form for the Grifoni.
