Ranieri: Secco Has Done Well
Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri is happy with the transfer campaign that has been conducted by much-maligned sporting director Alessio Secco.
Secco is hugely unpopular with many Juventus fans, following a line of blunders in the transfer market since replacing Luciano Moggi two years ago.
The chief has become notorious for his expensive purchases of the likes of Jean-Alain Boumsong, Sergio Almiron and Tiago Mendes, who joined the club for a total fee of around €27m. He has also been criticized for attempting to offload Giorgio Chiellini last summer to Manchester City.
This summer, Ranieri believes that Secco has done much better, having snapped up Amauri, Dario Knezevic and Olof Mellberg so far.
"We need to make improvements compared to last year,” said the Tinkerman.
“However, I am happy with the players that I have at my disposal. We have made some good purchases.”
The former Chelsea coach then outlined his ambitions for the coming season, and he admits that he is thinking about the Scudetto.
"Our first objective is to get through the Champions League preliminaries,” he explained.
“But it is no secret that we are also thinking about the Scudetto. I do not believe it is a taboo for us."
