Samp Favourites To Sign Almiron
According to Secolo XIX, Sampdoria are set to beat off competition from Fiorentina to sign Juventus flop Sergio Almiron.
Almiron signed for Juve from Empoli last summer for €9m and was immediately hailed as the “new Sebsatian Veron”, due to his similarities in look and style of play.
However the 27-year-old has been a huge flop in Turin, and after making just a handful of starts in Serie A, he was shipped off on loan to Monaco to in January.
The Argentine has since returned to Juve, but he is certain to leave this summer. He has been linked with a whole host of clubs including Palermo and Galatasaray.
In recent weeks Sampdoria and Fiorentina have both been heavily associated. Secolo XIX claims that the Viola want to take Almiron on loan next season with an option.
However their bid has reportedly been trumped in the last few hours by Sampdoria, who are prepared to sign the player on a co-ownership basis, an arrangement that Juve prefer.
Samp coach Walter Mazzarri believes that Almiron is the final jigsaw to complete his midfield as they enter the UEFA Cup next season.
