Cobolli Applauds Tiago
Juventus midfielder Tiago Mendes enjoyed a rare start last night against Roma and president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli admits it was his best performance ever as a Bianconero.
The Old Lady eased past Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, running away 2-0 winners thanks to a magnificent Alessandro Del Piero free-kick and a goal by Marco Marchionni in the second half.
“It was truly a great game and our players gave their all also in the second period, despite our midweek efforts at the Stadio Dall’Ara in Bologna,” Cobolli Gigli told Sky Sport after the encounter. “I saw great football tonight and I have to compliment all the lads.”
Coach Claudio Ranieri’s side had been badly stuttering in recent weeks. After the away win at Cagliari on September 21, they had picked up two draws and as many defeats in Serie A and the ex-Chelsea boss’ job seemed on the line.
“I think that we have definitely improved now, and things are also getting much better on the physical front,” continued the Juve president, “however, it is amazing, as we take to the pitch every three days, but all the players were in exceptional form tonight.
“And I want to congratulate Tiago in particular, as he had his best game in a Bianconeri shirt today. Will he be confirmed then? I don’t know, it is too early to talk about this, but he really contributed to the side like I wanted him to.”
