Juventus Stalwart Chiellini Throws Down Gauntlet To Inter

Juventus Stalwart Chiellini Throws Down Gauntlet To Inter

The Italian international claims the three points were imperative last Sunday in order to remain on the Nerazzurri’s back.

Juventus’ last-gasp win over Lecce allowed Claudio Ranieri’s men to stay six points adrift of leaders Inter in the Serie A table, prior to the crunch clash with AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico next weekend.

“The pitch did not really help us on Sunday, as it was slippery and bumpy, and the ball would constantly change direction,” he told Tuttosport.

“That’s why we were often forced to slow down our play, which greatly benefited their defensive approach.

“Nonetheless, the important thing was to win, keep pace with Inter and consolidate our second spot. Otherwise, it would have been a problem, as all the other sides picked up the three points.”

The Old Lady will now host BATE Borisov in the Champions League tomorrow night and the centre-back warns they will need to be very focused and not look ahead at the battle with Milan.

“It is too early to think about the Rossoneri,” he mused. “We have to be fully concentrated tomorrow and make sure we get at least a point to qualify in first place.

“It won’t be easy, though, as they proved in our first meeting that they cannot be underestimated.”
