Giornata 7 : Napoli vs Juventus

At the San Paolo to “vindicate” last year

The match against Napoli is never a predictable one, if any predictable matches still exist, and keeping in mind last year’s grotesque defeat in a match conditioned by penalties, Juventus will surely be on the their toes in what promises to be an exciting game.

The last match at the San Paolo, played on the 27th of October of last year had one real protagonist, or antagonist, call him what you may : referee Bergonzi who gave the “partenopei” a victory on a golden platter by handing them two inexistent penalties which led to a heavy 3-1 defeat.

The last Juventus victory at the Napolitan arena dates back to the 30th of September 2000 when Kovacevic and Del Piero handed three points to Juventus scoring two goals in the second half of the game after the first half had ended with a 1-0 score for Napoli.

Juventus and Napoli played each other a total 126 games in the Serie A with Juventus winning 58 of these encounters, Napoli taking home 24 victories and 43 matches ending in a tie.

When it comes to league matches played in Naples, Juventus won 20 times as opposed by 25 draws and 18 Napoli victories.

With tickets selling like hot cakes and a stadium possibly sold-out what remains to discover is whether Ranieri’s team will manage to vindicate last year’s defeat and re-discover the ingredients to victory.
