Juventus idol Alessandro Del Piero has called for summer reinforcements and believes that Pavel Nedved will stay in Turin.

Alex has enjoyed an inspirational season for the newly promoted Old Lady and moved to join top of the Capocannoniere chart with his 19th goal of the campaign against Catania yesterday.

“It’s not easy to score and you don’t go out just looking to find the net,” Del Piero explained after equalling teammate David Trezeguet and Genoa star Marco Borriello’s totals.

“You look to do the right things at the right time and I think that is the biggest factor for me. But it is a great pleasure to score.

“Will I go to Euro 2008? I won’t be a first striker, but I can play in other roles, as I have shown in the past.”

The Bianconeri have exceeded all expectations this season to secure third place, but Del Piero knows that next season will be a tougher test with greater expectations to meet.

“The club’s project has to take the history of the team into consideration and it is a strong tradition,” he stressed.

“Juve have to be strong and aim for the top. The best way to do that is to reinforce the squad this summer. We also need to do that because our rivals will be stronger still next year.”

New faces are expected in due course and one man who may need to be replaced is midfield veteran Nedved, who is considering retirement after failing to agree a new deal in Turin.

“Nedved? There can be no debate about a player in such good form,” Del Piero insisted.

“There is no possible alternative for Pavel and I am convinced that he will stay.”
