Legrottaglie: I Love Ray Charles!

Legrottaglie: I Love Ray Charles!

Deeply-religious Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie has revealed that he wants to move to America after finishing his European career with Juventus because he is lured there by its evangelical churches. The defender also revealed how he loves to listen to former Blues genius Ray Charles.

There were high hopes for Legrottaglie when he joined the club in 2003 from Chievo, however he had a nightmare first year in Turin making mistake after mistake.

After being sent out on loan to Bologna and Siena the 31-year-old returned in 2006 but was only a bit-part player in the Serie B promotion campaign under Didier Deschamps.

He was expected to be sold last summer, and indeed he had already packed his bags in anticipation of a move to Besiktas, however the transfer fell through at the last moment.

Legrottaglie stayed, and after the injury to Jorge Andrade in week three, he established himself a key member of the team, making 33 Serie A appearances.

"This time around I will not prepare anything,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport, when asked about the collapsed move to Besiktas.

“I want to finish my [European] career with Juve, then spend a year playing soccer in America, where there are many evangelical churches.

“I love the gospel, and I often listen to Ray Charles.”

Legrottaglie has often stated that his change in fortunes on the football field were down to his faith in Jesus Christ.

"For me it was important to do well with Juve,” he continued.

“I wanted to give something back to the club and the fans, something I was not able to do the first year. However I can still give more.”
