Buffon To Miss Last Match

Buffon To Miss Last Match

Juventus shot-stopper Gianluigi Buffon will sit out the last league match against Sampdoria because to a long-standing back problem.

Juventus number one Gigi Buffon will miss the Bianconeri's last league game of the season against Sampdoria due to a long-standing back problem. He had already planned to take some rest after the team qualified for the Champions League, but when he got better he decided to change his plans.

However, it seems that with Euro 2008 set to kick-off in a few weeks, the Italian international goalkeeper wants to avoid any risks and make sure he will be able to start in goal for the Azzurri at the tournament. Also, the match against Sampdoria holds no further meaning for Juve's season apart from pride.

Coach Claudio Ranieri will also have to do without the injured Vincenzo Iaquinta and the suspended Mauro Camoranesi, Zdenek Grygera and Antonio Nocerino.

The usual couple of David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero, who have both scored 19 goals this season, will play up front and they will battle it out for the Capocannoniere title (Serie A top scorer). It could also end up as a three-way tie, as currently the two Juve icons are on top along with Genoa sensation Marco Borriello.
