Del Piero Offers Capocannoniere To Fans

Juventus symbol Alessandro Del Piero has dedicated his Capocannoniere crown to his fans and all those who continued to believe in him during the difficult times.

The 33-year-old Del Piero has been written off by detractors many times over the past few years, and he was again labelled as a "has-been" following a disappointing performance for Italy against France at the beginning of the season.

However the Golden Boy again set out to prove all the doubters wrong with arguably his best season in a decade, and his two goals against Sampdoria at the weekend enabled him to finish as Serie A top-scorer.

This means that Del Piero becomes only the second person in history (the other being the legendary Paolo Rossi) to win the Serie A and Serie B top-scorer award in successive seasons.

“I am Capocannoniere for the second consecutive time and my first time in Serie A,” he stated on his personal website.

“If I had imagined at the start of the season that I would finish as top scorer then I would have expected to be saying: ”I told you so”, talking to those who didn’t believe in me and never have.

“But when I achieved this objective, the first thing I thought was actually: “You told me,” talking to everyone who always believed in me and never stopped encouraging me fans and Coaches alike.

“This award is for everyone who has been close to me and has shared my passion, my tough moments, my joy and my desire to continue winning.

“All of you told me I could do this and in the end I scored 21 goals in Serie A and 24 in total this season. What matters more is that along with my teammates, who I will never stop thanking, these goals have helped us to managed to return to the Champions League."

Del Piero then looked forward to next season.

“I am happy with Juventus’ season and my season and not just the goals, which aren’t and never will be the be all and end all." he added.

“Now we have to build on everything that we have done this year and move forward again. It’s not finished here and don’t tell me that I didn’t warn you.”
