David Trezeguet backs Alessandro Del Piero
Trezeguet Backs Del Piero Euro 2008 Bid
Juventus striker David Trezeguet backs Alessandro Del Piero to be picked for the Euros and the Frenchman hopes he gets the nod from Domenech.
Both strikers have a lot in common, they play for the same club and they have the same ambitions to take part in the forthcoming Euro 2008 tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
There have been major doubts over whether both players would represent their country in the finals but Trezegol is hoping he and Del Piero will be there.
“We have nothing to prove anymore, we deserve to be called up to the national team,” Trezeguet told Sky Sport Italia.
“Alex is very important for his side and I have no doubts as to whether he should get the call up.
“He has shown everyone this season that he is one of the most important players in Serie A.
“As for myself, I hope I can play in the Euro’s as a protagonist rather than a fringe player, which is what happened during the last World Cup.
“If that happens then I will take a step backwards and the team would have to find a striker who would accept being the fifth or sixth choice.”
Del Piero has been in stunning form for his club recently but just when Donadoni turned up to watch him, he put in a woeful performance against Siena on Sunday.
The Frenchman too has shown his class this season, but he has had problems in the past with Domenech off the pitch and thus this could go against him.
