No Euro 2008 for Trez
No Euro 2008 for Trez
Sunday 18 May, 2008
David Trezeguet has not made France’s list of potential Euro 2008 players despite netting 20 goals in Serie A.
The Juventus striker has long been at loggerheads with Coach Raymond Domenech, but he had hoped to at least be in the 30-strong squad before it was whittled down to the 23 for the tournament.
France are in Group C along with Italy, Holland and Romania, but Trezeguet will not be taking part.
Instead Domenech has called up Saint-Etienne forward Bafetimbi Gomis.
There are other Serie A stars in the squad, though, including Roma defender Philippe Mexes, Inter midfielder Patrick Vieira and new Milan star Mathieu Flamini.
Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey has made the cut, although he faces a battle with Marseille’s Steve Mandanda for the role of third choice.
Former Juve men Jean-Alain Boumsong and Lilian Thuram are also in the squad.

Midfielders: Alou Diarra (Bordeaux), Lassana Diarra (Portsmouth), Mathieu Flamini (Arsenal), Claude Makelele (Chelsea), Jeremy Toulalan (Lyon), Patrick Vieira (Inter);
