Del Piero: «Juve vs. Real: a unique clash»
«Saturday we didn't get what we hoped, unfortunately, but not for wont of trying. We worked hard in the last few weeks; we still need to get over several problems. It would've been nice to see a result straight away, but these things take time, we have to commit ourselves and keep working». This was how Alessandro Del Piero began his press conference, describing the period the team is living. But now there's the match against Real Madrid, an unparalleled fixture: «This is THE match, with a capital M; people choose to become footballers to play games like this one. It doesn't matter that we're having problems now, it's everybody's dream to play this game. And we want it to be a one-off game, in terms of the result and our performance, in the context of the bad patch we're going through”.
The journalists asked him to elaborate further on the period the team is living: «It's definitely a delicate period – the Captain explained – we have some very tough hurdles ahead of us. A win against Real Madrid would certainly give us impetus and boost our self-confidence, but you have to take into account our opponents, who are doing better than us at present, also in terms of injuries». Someone asked him if this match can mark someone's future at the Club. Alex has no doubts: «This match is useful for the future of all of us. Club, Manager, team and fans, we're all on the same boat. I repeat: a win would give us all a boost». Speaking of the fans, Del Piero had no doubts: «We're convinced the people will support this team as we try to do all we can to get through this delicate moment»
And finally, a confession: «You know how much I've missed games like this in the last two years? A great deal. Even when I was saying in public that I wasn't watching the Champions League. I missed it and so did Juventus»
