Old Lady Push For Zhirkov - Reports
Old Lady Push For Zhirkov - Reports
Juventus scouts are actively scouring the market in order to bolster Claudio Ranieri's ranks in January. CSKA's Yuri Zhirkov remains one of their primary targets, according to reports.
Sporting director Alessio Secco and CEO Jean-Claude Blanc have repeatedly stated that the Bianconeri will definitely try to strengthen the side when the Calciomercato reopens in January.
Fans and media have turned against the club after a spate of disappointing results that culminated in the dire defeat by Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico before the international hiatus.
This summer Juve missed out on several big-name stars, including Liverpool's Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso and Inter's Dejan Stankovic, and ultimately opted to sign Danish international Christian Poulsen from Sevilla. However, the Dane has failed to impress so far and Secco will likely go back to drawing board in January to fix their midfield problems.
But the Corso Galileo Ferraris powers that be are also keen to reinforce the flanks and could make a move for Russian international Zhirkov.
The rumour mill was set off last week, but now the whispers are intensifying and Italian press reports claim that Juve are closely monitoring the 25-year-old.
According to Tuttosport, the gifted CSKA left-back would command a fee of at least €15m, but the Russian club are expected to demand up to €25m before they'll part company with the player.
German international Bastian Schweinsteiger is also still rumoured to be in the frame, but the midfielder's contract with Bayern Munich is due to expire next summer. Thus, it's unlikely that Secco willsplash the cash on a player who will become a free agent before long.
