Juventus Get New Stadium Go-Ahead
Juventus have been given the green light to begin work on their new stadium which will see the old and out-dated Stadio Delle Alpi knocked down and a new state-of-the-art arena built in its place...
The new facility will be complete in time for the 2011-2012 season and it will hold 40,000 spectators and early reports suggest it will be one of the best stadia in world football.
Juventus will unveil all the details at an official presentation on October 27 where UEFA president and former Bianconero Michel Platini will be present. There will also be 120 VIP suites as well as 5,300 car park bays and space for a shopping complex.
Sticking with tradition, the inside of the stadium will be made up of black and white materials and the stands will be one unique ring based on the way English stadiums are built, similar to Sunderland's Stadium of Light, the Riverside at Middlesbrough, Derby's Pride Park or the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
It's great news for Juve fans as the club will have their very own stadium where they will be responsible for the amenities and services rather than the local council.
The club has acquired the Delle Alpi from Turin city council and they are waiting for some final pieces of paper work to be signed, sealed and delivered before the bulldozers and builders are sent in.
The old stadium came under heavy criticism for its poor views from the stands which were too distant from the action and the Old Lady has been playing at the Olimpico Grande since moving from the Alpi in 2006.
Meanwhile, the team returned to training at Vinovo today as they prepare for the game against Napoli on Saturday night.
