Yuri Zhirkov
Juve Eye Zhirkov
Juventus have identified CSKA Moscow's Yuri Zhirkov as a possible summer transfer target...
Juventus have been struggling so far this season, as demonstrated by their recent collapse against Palermo that saw them lose 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.
The club have a number of ageing stars in their ranks, including former Czech Republic international Pavel Nedved, who turned 36 in August. Thus, Juve scouts have begun their search for more reinforcements and one that has been identified is CSKA Moscow winger Yuri Zhirkov.
According to tuttosport, 25-year-old Zhirkov has been earmarked as a perfect replacement for Nedved for the 2009/10 season.
The Russian became a well-known player during Euro 2008 under coach Guus Hiddink as his performances helped Russia all the way to the semi-finals, where they lost out to eventual winners Spain.
Zhirkov has been at CSKA Moscow since 2004 and has won 26 caps for the Russian national side. It was predicted that after his positive Euro 2008 performances he would leave CSKA during the summer, but no move eventuated. The player should definitely have plenty of suitors once the transfer window reopens.
