Giovinco's Juve joy
Wednesday 1 October, 2008
Sebastian Giovinco admits it is “a childhood dream come true” to duet with Alex Del Piero in a Champions League game.
“I only knew that morning that I would be in the starting XI. I was relaxed and it went well for me, but this is the third time in a row we have had a draw,” said the youth product after Juventus’ 2-2 result away to BATE Borisov.
The ‘Atomic Ant’ provided both assists for Vincenzo Iaquinta’s goals after BATE had taken a 2-0 lead.
“It is my second game with Juventus and clearly we need to get to know each other, but that can only happen by playing regularly.
“It doesn’t seem real, as it was one of my childhood dreams to play alongside Del Piero, so to do it in the Champions League makes it doubly wonderful.”
Giovinco’s inclusion in the first team has come after calls from the fans and newspapers for more space.
He is fast becoming a hero for the Bianconeri, although the agonised over contract renewal has still not been signed and Giovinco is a prime target for Arsenal.
“I don’t think there are any problems with the contract renewal. We are talking and the signature will certainly come.”
